I don't recall it being a very large part. Chulalongkorn was bigger, in my memory. (My mom played Anna, but it was over ten years ago and I was away at college for most of the rehearsals.)
I know he's onstage a lot. There's a good deal of him at the beginning, I believe, and he hangs out with some of the King's children as well. It's been awhile since I've seen it. I'd say it was a good sized featured role.
Heh. I think I could have given you better information if I had known why you were asking. (I thought it was for a fic!) Yes, Louis would be a thrill to play, for a child, imo.
Just talked to my mom - significant scenes for Louis include when he sings the whistling song ("Whenever I feel afraid..." etc.) with Anna and a good scene with the Prince. :)
Hee - that's funny - at rehearsal on Wednesday they just announced that our second next show (after Fiddler on the Roof, which is after Godspell) will be The King & I! :-)
I think Louis is around quite a lot. It's certainly the biggest of the smaller children's parts, but the King's son's part is bigger.
One of the more prominent little theater companies is doing it here (errr, that didn't make much sense- I mean we have two theaters companies that are Off-Broadway level- nationally known, then we have a bunch that are on the semi-professional/amateur well respected within the area and then a whole slew of little tiny ones. This falls into the middle category) My sister does a lot of plays and is trying to convince my son to try out for Louis (she is trying out for Anna)

Thanks though, that's helpful!

Oh, and sorry, yes, Chulalongkorn was the eldest son of the king.
