Stupid brain

Yes, it is very important to spend two hours researching the difference between a geological survey and a geographic survey so I can use the right term when Jack dismisses the data presented to him via the report in a brief sentence.

And no, I'm not wasting time on the minutia because it puts off figuring out the specifics behind the evil alien, or how Jack is going to solve things and what's going to happen next- that's just a bonus.

Anyone have a brain that is functioning?  Mine appears to be stuck on spin cycle.

I feel like I've been trapped at the desk of doom for about a fortnight, which wasn't helped when we had 4 people off today :S

I'm sure Jack will figure it out, now that he knows the difference ;) You'll get there! As long as you combine some writing with the research, it'll come. You've got so much done already :D

*waves pom poms* although I'm staying sitting down because if I try to bounce, I'm going to fall over...

My bigbang and I have been in a love and hate relationship for awhile now. Jack will pull me through, he's finagled his way to NY, gotten past the pushy four year old and her "tea and crumbits" and managed to tell us whats happened in the story (well, so far) in both the present and in flashbacks to the first time he confronted the alien.

Now if only he'd tell me what the alien is...

*pulls plug*
Er or maybe not

*feeds donuts and chocolate*

If all else fails he could just wake up in the SUV - as if by magic - with the answer LOL

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-02-25 05:34 pm (UTC)(link)
I will always happily accept donuts and chocolate!

I am determined to finish my bigbang. 6,000 words and about a third of the story to go, give or take.

[identity profile] mad-jaks.livejournal.com 2008-02-25 05:36 pm (UTC)(link)
OH OH and if you don't know what the alien is perhaps we could play that game

Fold a piece of paper in 3
person one draw a head and shoulders
person two draw the body, and arms
person three draw the hands and legs

then voila a monster

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-02-25 05:40 pm (UTC)(link)
lol! that's a cute idea! I might do that with my kids to figure out what it looks like.

My main problem is I didn't plan out my bigbang- I can't write that way. I had a basic premise - this lake near where I grew up was considered to be haunted and people always died in it- what if it wasn't haunted, but there was am alien responsible for the deaths instead? So... I've gotten to the point in the story where I have to start to explain the alien and whatnot... and need to start figuring things out in a hurry

[identity profile] mad-jaks.livejournal.com 2008-02-25 05:45 pm (UTC)(link)
That's more how I write - from the gut - I know how my characters react so all I have to do is disengage brain and let them get on with it.
The things I've known are going to be long and I've roughed out in the past are the ones that I have most problems with *snuggles you*

So it's a water based alien - you know that at least ♥

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-02-25 05:48 pm (UTC)(link)
probably water based. yeah.

the fact that by just having the characters react and lead me places has gotten me 14k words is scary. Eventually jack will figure things out for me. Or at least I hope so.

[identity profile] mad-jaks.livejournal.com 2008-02-25 05:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Would it help if I bombarded you/Jack with questions about them??

Or NOT?

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-02-25 05:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Here's the problem. The story is two-fold. Half (give or take) takes place in the 1950's when Jack first faces the alien and meets the OC I created for a different story and wanted included in this one. The other half occurs in the present, when Jack has gotten a mysterious message that the OC is in trouble and knows it has something to do with the alien from back when.

My difficulty has been figuring out not only what kind of alien it is, but why Jack would have left the job half-finished back in the 50's.

I have a few random ideas, but they haven't gelled together yet.

Did that make any sense?

[identity profile] mad-jaks.livejournal.com 2008-02-25 05:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Urgle actually yes...

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-02-25 05:57 pm (UTC)(link)
damn my muse for making this more difficult than it had to be!

[identity profile] mad-jaks.livejournal.com 2008-02-25 06:03 pm (UTC)(link)
have sent you an lj message
am going out for a bit now...

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-02-25 06:04 pm (UTC)(link)
:) have fun!

[identity profile] chatona.livejournal.com 2008-02-25 06:23 pm (UTC)(link)
I'd lend you my brain, but it took a vacation two years ago and still isn't back. Sends me postcards every once in a while. I think it's somewhere in the Carribean...

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-02-25 06:28 pm (UTC)(link)
at least the postcards are pretty. would be worse if it sent back postcards of famous garbage dumps or something... :)

[identity profile] chatona.livejournal.com 2008-02-25 06:32 pm (UTC)(link)
It keeps telling me it's watching hot boys snog at the beach, but I think it's just making that up to annoy me. Evil brain.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-02-25 06:32 pm (UTC)(link)
ahh, so it's taunting you. evil, evil thing!

[identity profile] chatona.livejournal.com 2008-02-25 06:37 pm (UTC)(link)
it is! and it's not helping me any *pouts* distracting and taunting and that kind of thing. so, really. you don't want my brain.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-02-25 06:39 pm (UTC)(link)
I suppose you need it for your amazing NCIS stuff anyway. *sigh*

I'll have to muddle through with mine then

[identity profile] chatona.livejournal.com 2008-02-25 06:49 pm (UTC)(link)
My brain? Nah. My brain's got nothing to do with that, it's all my inner!Tony's doing. Well. And [livejournal.com profile] luthien82 helps a lot, 'cause she's the Gibbs to my Tony *nods solemnly* amazing? *blushes brightly*

I'm sure you'll do just great ♥

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-02-25 06:51 pm (UTC)(link)
I've tried to find a way to write Tony, but so far no go. Maybe after I finish my bigbang I'll go back and take another stab at it. There's a preslash h/c I have in mind for G/T.

[identity profile] chatona.livejournal.com 2008-02-25 07:03 pm (UTC)(link)
For some reason, I find writing Tony terribly easy. It probably helps that I'm constantly rping him, too.

Hm, preslash h/c *purrs at you* I'd love it if you wrote that. It sounds great ♥ I adore h/c, especially when it comes to G/T ♥

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-02-25 07:07 pm (UTC)(link)
G/D h/c is an addiction of mine. I have a premise for the story mapped out in my head, but no time to write it. One of these days though... :)

Tony is a little too like Jack sometimes, the flirt and easy nature hiding something deeper underneath- it confuses me to try to differentiate (if that makes sense)

[identity profile] rustydog.livejournal.com 2008-02-25 07:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Okay, now I have a desire to visit famous garbage dumps. That's how non-(normally) functioning *my* brain is. (But think of all the interesting things you could learn in a garbage dump!)
