Snowflake Challenge Day 9-12

Okay, okay, I totally flaked on doing these, mostly because I didn't have an easy (or even any) answer for them.

Day 9: Commit an Act of Kindness. I left some comments on some fics if that counts?

Day 10: Create a fanwork. I've done over a dozen fanworks (mostly absolutely terrible, somewhat dirty MSpaint-type art) in the last 48 hours for a badworks fest (although all are posted under a new donut-related named sock I created just for the fest). They're still unrevealed though and, honestly, I probably won't officially link them to donutsweeper ever either. But still. Fanworks!

Day 11: In your own space, talk about your creative process(es) — anything from the initial inspiration to how you feel after something’s done. Do you struggle with motivation or is it a smooth process? Do you have any tricks up your sleeve to pull out when a fanwork isn’t cooperating? What is your level of planning to pantsing/winging it?

Honestly, no idea how to answer this one. The past *mumble* years I've pretty much only written for exchanges and challenges and if there's a prompt or idea I can run with I just take it and go. That's why I love treating so much. I'm dreadful at coming up with stuff on my own and I rarely write long so trying to plot something complicated isn't an issue.

Day 12: In your own space, create your own challenge. Challenge yourself to comment more often on fics! Whether the fic was posted last week or last year (or 10 years ago) if you read the whole thing and liked it don't just hit the 'kudos' button but leave a comment. Even if it's just "Awww" or "I liked this" you'll make an author's day.

Comments do count!

Yay you for creating over a dozen fanworks for that challenge!

I second 'comment'. Because comments are like chocolate and oxygen! *g*

As a writer, I don't think I can ever fully convey to people how much a positive comment makes my day. (Kudos make me happy too! Especially when they trickle in on old fic in dead fandoms.) One negative comment will put me straight into a sulk, I'll tend to assume an ambiguous comment is meant as a thumbs-down, and silence... my head just fills in the worst-case scenario when there isn't much response to a fic. Even if there are kudos, if there are zero comments I assume everyone hated that one. Even when I post something that later on picks up traction that first little bit where there are either zero comments or the only comment is from my beta reader is nerve-wracking. I love beta reader comments too, but there's that "But Mom has to pretend she loves me in public" vibe that makes me feel like they don't officially count. (I mentioned I was a neurotic mess?)

Or getting those vague comments like, "Oh, I used to live near that town. I know exactly where this story is taking place." And I'm left thinking, "Okay... did... did you like the story? Did you not like the story and this was the most positive thing you could think to say about it? Oh, God, you hated the story, didn't you?"

Comments totally count.

Hello, fellow short-order cook of fandom! (I like exchanges a lot, too, because the prompts are things that I can just pick up and go with, and if there's a particularly good one, the writing process is very satisfying.)

I try to find something to comment on for fics I enjoyed. Sometimes I think I sound trite about it, but I really do try to find something.

I just realized the term myself a little while ago, and now I'm hoping to seed it around so that it gets some traction.

Now there's a challenge I can get behind! Comments are the lifeblood of authors...

I'm a small fandom-and-rarepair type, and right now I'm particularly focused on those, instead of wanting to read much in my larger fandoms, but it means when I do see something written for one of those fandoms, I get excited. It's easy to worry that you're bothering someone when you comment on an older fic, even though as a fellow writer I know that's not true, but when I see there's something out there for a really rare thing I like, I just want to at least let the author know they weren't shouting into the void! It might even mean having a new person to talk to about the thing with.
