IT IS DONE!!!

Wonder of wonders, miracle of miracles (to quote "Fiddler") my [community profile] tardis_bigbang is DONE!   Okay, the rough draft only, but STILL....

A super huge thank you to all you wonderful people on my flist who helped when I pestered you with random questions about vegetarians and 1950's cars and fancy computer technology, et cetera...

Soon there will be hopefully be actual writings posted in this journal again, and possibly a writing meme or two.   But for now, it's happy dance time!

What did the word count come out to be? Not that it won't change with revisions and stuff, but I'm curious. *twirls with you*

*adds a bounce or two*

21446 wow

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-03-06 06:05 am (UTC)(link)
it's scary. almost 10k more than the longest thing I wrote previously

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_medley_/ 2008-03-06 06:08 am (UTC)(link)
That is so cool! I think you could put everything I've written together, and it wouldn't be 20,000 words.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-03-06 06:10 am (UTC)(link)
but you do art too! And RP.

Can you believe the SGA bigbang is a 40k minimum? O_0

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_medley_/ 2008-03-06 06:12 am (UTC)(link)
I saw that! Yikes! Also, it's just gen or McKay/Sheppard, which seems...unfair. I mean, I love gen AND McKay/Sheppard, but...it seems weird of them to limit it like that.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-03-06 06:14 am (UTC)(link)
The limitations for it were really weird. I'm glad the Tardis one was.. eh- make sure it's TW or DW or SGA related and we'll be happy. It'll mean the stories are ones the authors are really interested in writing and not just coming up with anything that'll pad the word count

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-03-06 06:18 am (UTC)(link)
And the Tardis ones will be wonderfully diverse

I've read some REALLY long stories (there are a lot in SGA and SG1 that are 100k+) and nearly all should have been gone at with a hacksaw. Longer=/= better.

But, if done right, long can = good. It's weird how close to 20k mine turned out to be

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_medley_/ 2008-03-06 06:23 am (UTC)(link)
They will be!

I like [livejournal.com profile] miss_porcupine's stuff. She can't write short things even if she tries--she tries to write drabbles and they end up 1000+ words. *g*

It is weird how close yours is! Nifty, but weird.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-03-06 06:26 am (UTC)(link)
I don't think I know her stuff, I'll look into it later.

Nifty but weird should be my motto. It describes me pretty well

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_medley_/ 2008-03-06 06:34 am (UTC)(link)
Here's her fic index by where they fall in the SGA timeline:

http://miss-porcupine.livejournal.com/160017.html

Here it is in the order that she wrote it, which might be a saner way to start reading:

http://www.offpanel.net/dmz/sga.html

("The Jenny Code" is a good place to start, as I recall.)

Nifty but weird! Weird but nifty! Either way. *vbg* (Actually, I think weird IS nifty, but still.)

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-03-06 06:36 am (UTC)(link)
oh excellent, reading for tomorrow (er, later today sometime) wow, it's late. Night!

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_medley_/ 2008-03-06 06:38 am (UTC)(link)
Good night! Happy reading later!

*butts in*

They're trying to get interest in writing other pairings, slash and het, this year - I'm just grateful they're letting Gen in. Don't get me wrong, well written McKay/Sheppard can be the best fic in the fandom, but it's like Jack/Ianto in Torchwood - it's everywhere.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-03-06 02:40 pm (UTC)(link)
I think it's worse than Jack/Ianto, there is a LOT more McShep (and a LOT of it is very bad) There is good McKay/Shep out there, but it's hard to find decent stuff

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_medley_/ 2008-03-06 05:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Are they? Whoops, so much for my reading comprehension! That makes me feel better.

[identity profile] jadesfire2808.livejournal.com 2008-03-06 09:47 pm (UTC)(link)
I have to admit that I find the whole concept of limiting entries by 'ship a bit baffling, but maybe that's because I'm a Gen writer. :) They're still scouting around for interest in other 'ships, but at least they're letting Gen authors in this time. There are a whole...gosh...three of us signed up so far *faceplam*

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_medley_/ 2008-03-06 10:51 pm (UTC)(link)
It's a bit mystifying, yes. Maybe they think they won't be able to get betas or artists for rarer pairings? Although I can't imagine saying I wouldn't make art for a pairing. Uhm, probably trying to figure this out is just going to give me a headache.

Three of you, huh? Well, I'm looking forward to yours, anyway!

(My writing brain is fairly gen. Er, obviously.)
