TW 2.10 everything a torchwood episode should be

Creepy sideshow villains, a tantalizing look at a moment of Jack's past, what more could a person want out of a Torchwood episode?

So we learn that around the turn of the century Jack was sent (by whom we don't know - it's a "long story") to work the traveling circus circuit to look for "The Night Travelers" who could take someone's breath away, rather literally unfortunately for their victims.  Jack explains was billed as 'the man who couldn't die' (rather apropos, don't you think?)

There was also the interesting exchange between Christina (whose family were victims of the Night Travelers) and Jack
C: Your eyes are older than your face.
J (laughing): Is that a bad thing
C: Yes, it means you don't belong.  It means you're from nowhere.

she also said something interesting to Ianto:
C: They touched you, I can sense it.  They touched you as they passed you by.  (Was this supposed to be about the shadows (the Night Travelers) or something else entirely?)

Eventually Jack comes up with THE PLAN.  They'll film the bad guys and then expose the film and *poof* the Night Travelers will go up in smoke.

They pull it off, to some extent.  Well, the good guys win at least, sort of.  They saved a little kid, although lost a lot of other victims...  But they killed the bad guys, at least for now.   Although, as Jack points out, the Night Travelers might still exist in other film footage, and might escape into the real world again...

I never did quite figure out the correlation between Pearl and the Ghostmaker and the sea (or water in general) but this episode was written so well it didn't matter.  Or why some victims went missing (like Christina's parents and the reports Gwen mentions, while others died (the people in the hospital and the woman fromt he article Owen read), but I didn't care.  My love for Torchwood is back!

I must wait for the sane-sized H.264 goodness and then my dialup, but this episode sounds funnnnn. I'm looking forward to it :D.

there is dialup friendly ep version somewhere? You can contact me off lj at snirt at snirt dot us. I would adore that. Otherwise, I wait for 4 weeks to get the version off HDnet.

I loved most of this episode, but got frustrated at the ending. Not what happened, but the way it happened, felt a bit too rushed for me. Still, as you say, there was so much good stuff in there, and so much potential for what's going on with Jack. because the implication was that things like Lahore (Small Worlds - same writer, so I'm thinking not a coincidence) were part of his Time Agency work. Now it's implied that they're after 'Parting of the Ways' so what's that about? Was he working for Torchwood? Or someone else? *rubs hands together* Questions like that make me happy :)

Glad you've recovered your squee :D

yeah, the ending was a bit rushed, but I was just so happy with the overall bigger picture I decided to ignore that. I do wonder about Lahore though- I'd assumed Time Agency or con first time around, but maybe it's this time around and he's working for Torchwood or whomever he was answering to when he was working the circus circuit. Like you said- these sorts of ponderings make me happy (unlike the ones I was left with after the last two episodes)

Thanks, me too!

I totally agree...
