Shockingly, I've forgotten to crosspost my recthething recs for a while so here's a bunch (for MDZS/The Untamed and also Guardian- for both book and show). It's a combo of fic and art and tumblr comics.
Guardian (TV) fic: Nothing But Filial by eirenical (chibi1723) (1k)
Summary: “That's it… slowly turn around— Hey! Did I not just say ‘slowly’?” Halfway through the turn, when Zhao Yunlan saw that it was just the two of them, he dodged right, hoping to squeeze past and out into the open street. He wasn't fast enough. He never was. (Sweet but slightly sad Da Qing and kid!Zhao Yunlan fic)
Guardian (TV and book fusion) fic: Not All Those Who Wander by Xparrot (23k)
Summary: The god Kunlun is as old as the mountain range that bears his name, if not older. Or so the villagers say. He was here before any people were, as eternal as the mountains — moreso, in truth. The mountains might change, but Kunlun remains Kunlun. (This leans more heavily on tv than book canon and has a fascinating fable/myth quality to it, an excellent read)
Guardian art:
a ghost with a soul of a god- absolutely gorgeous Soul Slayer/Black Robed Envoy Shen Wei art (tumblr post)
Untamed/MDZS stuff:
You Make Me Smile, Please Stay for a While by xcourtney_chaoticx (6k)
summary: "All the Noble Families of the Land are hereby invited to Cloud Recesses for the celebration of Prince Wangji’s Seventeenth Birthday, wherein there will be a Contest in which Whosoever can Provide Prince Wangji with a Smile of True Happiness shall Earn his Hand in Marriage." (so very very sweet)
circles by bleuett (21k)
Summary snippet: At the peak of the Sunshot campaign, Wen Ruohan's greatest weapon goes missing. At the Cloud Recesses Flight Academy, Lan Wangji meets a new student by the name of Wei Ying. (super fascinating Space-AU with amazing world building)
a micro utopia born as the overture plays by tardigradeschool (18k)
Summary snippet: Lan Xichen proposes before the war. Somehow, through the property of transitivity, Wei Wuxian becomes Meng Yao’s problem to solve. (Canon divergent fic with an excellent, slightly different yet still scheming, version of Meng Yao)
Always See Me Through by thatoldeblackmagic (3k)
Summary snippet: Lan Wangji does not have a soul mate. Which is not uncommon or even particularly surprising. (book rather than show based, very interesting take on the soulmate AU, one I haven't seen before)
a journal of impossible things by lily_winterwood (18k)
Summary snippet: "Come to think of it, something was odd,” muses Wei Wuxian, blinking back the sudden recollection as his fingers brush against an old pocket-watch on his desk. “I was a man from the Heavens itself… and you were there, too, as my companion.”
His valet’s eyes twitch a little, but he quickly then covers it with a smile and sets down the teapot. “That would be unheard of, sir.” (fascinating Doctor Who fusion)
Strange Regrets by sunrise_and_death (6.5k, locked to AO3)
Summary snippet: It is hard not to feel guilty about it, after. No matter how much Lan Xichen tells him that it is not his fault, Lan Wangji knows things wouldn’t have happened as they did if he had only acted a little differently. If he had told the Jiang disciples that he was going to ask for an exception to be made, or if he’d let them into the Cloud Recesses to wait while he did so, or if he’d waived the rules entirely... (a brilliant LWJ, as an outsider, POV of time travel)
Maybe The Second Time Around by VoidRune (5k)
Summary: Lan Ying had always been bad at this being a Lan thing. He was a bit too wild, a bit too loud. Breaking the rules came more naturally to him than following them. But he tried his best, and he wasn’t one to give up easily. And hey, it even works half of the time. Things are a bit more complicated when he is the kind of troublemaker that managed to break the rules of reincarnation of all things. (Delightful AUish future reincarnation fic with a wonderful ending twist I won't spoil)
The Burial Grounds by WithBroomBefore (3k also has an adorably sweet embedded art piece)
Summary snippet: It is only a few minutes before a different employee appears with their orders, mugs and bowls balanced precariously enough that Lan Wangji watches the soup in some alarm. But the dishes and their contents reach the table safely, which means that he can look up when the server says brightly, “Can I get you anything else?"
Lan Wangji thinks, Oh. He only barely prevents himself from saying it aloud, and the effort keeps him from speaking at all. (wonderful and sweet coffee shop AU)
Three MDZS/Untamed comics from tumblr:
the first: a little comic about hands, love, and owning a body that was not your own (slightly heartwrenching as WWX ponders MXY and the body he gave him)
its sequel: a sequel of sorts. turns out, lan wangji does think about it. (LWJ's thoughts about WWX's (and MXY!WWX's) hands- beautiful)
in our next life, let’s meet again by yinyoru (tumblr post)
Absolutely gorgeous and heartstring tugging Modern-era comic where NHS drags LWJ to an art show and LWJ is struck speechless by what he sees there
A MDZS/Untamed "meme":
Distracted BF Meme, MDZS-style! (tumblr post)
Summary: Back at it again with the ancient memes….okay, but this one is actually fantastic for them because this is basically what happened while they were studying at Gusu. (Poor Jiang Cheng’s growing horror and realization that Wei Wuxian might actually have a Life Outside of Him (utterly hilarious)
I'm still reading Guardian (about 4/5ths of the way through) and am currently watching Word of Honor which is the newest 'big' Cdrama to hit fandom - it's another adaption from a book by Priest (as Guardian was) and like Guardian and Untamed had to tweak the book's canon m/m into something it was allowed to air. It's *very* slashy still. All the eps have aired in Chinese with a little over half subbed into English so far. I've not quite gotten through all the English ones yet. I don't think I'll be fannish about it, but I'll probably finish it. (I can't help but compare it to The Untamed which overall I enjoyed a lot more and am very fannish about, but maybe that'll change as the story progresses. Stunts-wise Untamed wins hands down though for lots and lots of reasons)
I'm working on a shawl while I watch. I don't need another shawl, but I needed some project to keep my hands busy so a simple shawl it is. More stash yarn is getting used up, so that's a good thing at least.
I recently finished crocheting a Cthulhu for daughter. It came out kind of cute:
