episode review 2.08, 2.09 and 2.11
2.08 A day in the death:
watched this episode when it aired last week and I could rewatch it get it fresh in my mind, but my brain begs 'please oh please no- anything but that.'
I didn't care enough about the episode to write an episode review of it then, not because it was painfully bad, it was just BORING. Random suicide bride was fine, and I felt bad for the poor dear, but WHO CARES? WTH was the episode supposed to be about? Random space toy thing? Yipdoodle.
And, ooh, newsflash- Owen was schmuck in S1 and guess what? He's still a schmuck. Who'd have thunk it?
I *thought* they were going with the idea that Owen is dead and the weird energy stuff that converted him was slowly dissipating, so he wouldn't have eternal death (like Jack has eternal life) but I guess they dropped that.
And Martha's goodbye really random. Thanks for stopping by and all that, but don't let the door hit you on the way out. And she STILL didn't get a scene with Tosh!
Coffee scene was cute- the rest of the episode was a yawn.
2.09 something borrowed:
I *hated* this episode. With a passion. It falls into that category of 'not gonna think about it and I'll just pretend it didn't happen, thanks.'
Why?
It can be boiled down to one thing. Gwen wasn't pregnant on Friday. Was on Saturday and wasn't going to have a cuddly bundle of joy to present after the next week to anyone, so how the heck did she expect she'd explain that? Why was she suddenly surprised that it was an issue? The suspension of belief/extension of disbelief was just too much for me to accept. Even my 10 yr old stumbled over that plot hole.
Sorry, Torchwood, but I expected more out of you.
2.11 adrift
Frankly I am tired of seeing episodes through Gwen's eyes. She treats everyone like crap and uses them, justifying it in ways I can't stand or fathom. She's terribly rude and mean to Rhys, the man loves her and finally knows what she does, but there should be a limit to what he should have to put up with. She uses Andy too- and fair condescendingly- he's her contact at the police department, but not worth explaining anything to and she even leads him on with false promises to get her way. And the way she treats Jack- it's like she doesn't consider that he might be human, that he might have feelings or maybe he knows things and is trying to protect others by not sharing/explaining at her whim.
I WANT to like Gwen. But her inability to listen to reason or think things through (which resulted in a death during her wedding and unnecessary danger and damage and the fact now NO ONE she was so desperate to have see her wedding will remember it) is beginning to grate on my nerves.
Oh- btw- Sorry Gwen, but Jack does have the right to say "no" to a special project, it's called him being the BOSS.
and... naked hide and seek? And Jack apparently cheats? Tell us more, please!
I love that Jack tries to help those affected by the rift. It's very him. It's also very him to keep it secret and hidden from the others (although apparently Ianto knew)
