It's Only Castles Burning

Title: It's Only Castles Burning
Pairing/Warning/Rating: None, rated G
Word Count: 100
Summary: The Doctor ponders the price paid to end the Time War
Author's Note: Thanks to [profile] _medley_ for the title.  My first entry into the [profile] paliphrase bronze challenge

It occurred to him that it should matter. It should bother him. There should be some part of him that screamed at the injustice of it all. But he felt nothing.  He just sat in the TARDIS watching it all turn to ash and smoke.

The war was over.  The conflict done.

Finis.

Somewhere a fat lady sang.  Not here.  No one was left to sing here.

Gallifrey was gone.  No more Time Lords.

But the Daleks were exterminated.   Erased from time and space.

Was it an even trade?  His people for the Daleks?

Now there’s just him.

Empty.

Alone.

I still love that to bits, and I'm still happy I threw that title at you. *g*

I came expecting nonsense

After your final comment to me last night abot crack!snippets and found this instead. Totally not disappointed though.

That's so Nine - that way he tries to pull the cheeky chappy face and it totally fails and you can see how much he's hurting...

Ouch! That's gorgeous - in a really, really painful way. I love the way the Doctor is so numb and how that's reflected in every word and in the style and structure of the drabble *bounces*

That bit's my favorite line, somehow. I can see him, alone, pondering...and looking cold/aloof while a thousand thoughts bounced through his head amounting to that.

This is a lovely extension of that first paragraph. I like the short sentences, sort of choppy, like each of his thoughts is final. It gives it an appropriately somber, thoughtful tone.

nice sense of timing controlling him instead of him controlling time right there.
