Blanket, recs and whatnot
The H/C exchange delayed its deadline and opening by a few weeks but I did *finally* manage to finish my fic for it a few days before that got announced. Now I just need to quit futzing with the summary. (There's about 2 dozen pinch hits currently for it, go check them out and see if any jump out at you.)
BUT with that done I finally felt I could move on and do things I'd been putting off so I finally had a chance to clean up and figure out Ravelry's submission system so I posted my blanket pattern there! Someone in one of my discords had posted some pictures of the blanket they're making using the pattern from when I put it on my DW so I knew it worked but still... had to kick anxiety brain about putting it up there. I'm VERY glad I wrote it up when I was finishing it up though because I did a swatch to try to figure out yardage and sat there for like ten minutes thinking 'wait, how did this go again?'
I have a sheet rug I'm working on but I also like have a crochet project so I'm debating what to do next. It'll be something that uses yarn I already have since making something we don't need out of materials I already have is one thing, but spending money on the supplies for it seems just silly. I might play around and try to create a pattern for another blanket and (hopefully finally) use up the cones of yarn I bought when that company went out of business in the early 90s but if I do I'll start with a small test bit instead of just whipping out a whole blanket like last time.
Son's day off happened to coincide with my birthday so he was able to run out and get me birthday donuts, which was delightful and he got enough there were still some left for mother's day so I got a treat for that too :)
And to end this post, have two weeks of
recthething fic recs (MDZS/The Untamed):

Messiah to the Monsters by MarbleGlove. (9.5k)
Summary: The establishment of the Yiling Wei Sect of ghost path cultivators was not happy or intentional, but a consequence of being under siege from detractors and supporters alike. Wei Wuxian invites the fake Yiling Patriarch disciples to take a chance at becoming real Yiling Patriach disciples. (a darker, but more political savvy WWX changes the events of the first siege of the Burial Mounds in this interesting canon divergent fic)
Weep You No More, Sad Fountains by athena_crikey (59k)
Summary: “Yiling Patriarch,” he begins, and Wei Wuxian’s face clouds.
“Please. That’s not – you know me, Zewu-jun. What’s wrong? Why are you here?” He walks over and Lan Xichen sees he has no weapon, not even his flute. He came to meet Wangji unarmed, defenseless. With a smile on his face.
“I’m here to ask for your help. It’s Wangji. He’s ill.” (This Burial Mounds Settlement Days canon divergent fic is a great look at WWX and the Wens through Lan Xichen's eyes)
The Second Jade of Lan's late but incendiary sexual awakening by KizuKatana (41k)
Summary: Lan Zhan was not interested in sex or romantic relationships. He had watched with a dismissive glance as his classmates made fools of themselves and wasted a considerable amount of time and energy on various hook-ups and romantic entanglements.
Aside from the fact that his lack of sexual interest kept him laser focused on his school and research, Lan Zhan’s reason for it was based on something more fundamental. He did not enjoy the company of most people fully clothed, and he couldn’t really imagine that improving if they were naked.
Which was why he found himself shocked at the visceral image that slammed through his system of grabbing Wei Ying by his messy ponytail, forcing him to his knees, and fucking his mouth until he cried. (this recently completed delightful modern university AU is a technically an alternate pov for one I recced a few months ago, "Su She Eats his Heart Out," but is its own story and can be read by itself.)
Tiger Skin, Fox Heart by GhostySword (29k)
Summary: When the Sacrifice Summon ritual goes wrong, Mo Xuanyu assumes his chance at revenge and freedom is gone. However, he still has bound Wei Wuxian's ghost to him, and together they make a plan: Mo Xuanyu will pretend to be fully possessed by the Yiling Laozu, they'll get rid of the Mo family, and then Mo Xuanyu will be miraculously "cured" and excused of all wrongdoing when a cultivator tries to exorcise him. What could go wrong?
Steps one and two go fine. Step three gets tricky when the cultivator who shows up is Hanguang-jun, who seems very uninterested in any exorcisms and very interested in "Wei Wuxian." It becomes even more complicated when Mo Xuanyu realizes he's stumbled into the middle of a star-crossed romance: and worst of all, that he's falling too. (It's really interesting how so many canon points change as a result of the divergence in this WWX/LWJ/MXY fic)

Summary: Since their first meeting, Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji have always known they’ll one day marry one another. Wei Wuxian’s mother, a romantic at heart, especially encourages him in this pursuit. Everything changes when he finds out Lan Wangji is not only one of the Lan sect heirs, but the nephew of Lan Qiren. A wandering cultivator, the son of Cangse sanren at that, cannot possibly seek a proper courtship with him. He doesn’t have the heart to tell her he’s broken their understanding. Two years later, this failure to speak the truth comes back to haunt him. (realistic, and great, look at how a rogue cultivator WWX no war but acknowledging their different status AU would play out)
