The Letter

Title: The Letter
Pairing/Rating/Warning: NCIS fandom, spoilers for SWAK, rated G
Word Count: 300 (3x100 word drabbles)
Summary: Three (very) minor NCIS characters and their thoughts on the SWAK letter.
Author's Note: Written for the [community profile] ncis_flashfic     Minor Characters Challenge,   and originally posted there. See if you can guess the characters!

I couldn’t believe it when Ducky called me. The Lowell case. I knew, deep down, it wasn’t my fault that the case hadn’t been solved. Pacci and I had worked the case to the best of our abilities. Our abilities had simply fallen short. Very short. Sarah had traumatic amnesia and couldn’t remember who raped her, no matter how she’d been prompted. Our hands had been tied when the Firsties were cleared by DNA testing. And with that, we’d walked away, NCIS’s part of the investigation closed. But someone wanted it open again, and wouldn’t take no for an answer.

I had to ask to find out what happened. Abby told me they’d had to initiate bio-attack procedures because Agent DiNozzo had opened a letter that contained a white powder- pneumonic plague. Postal regulations should’ve killed it when it was irradiated with the rest of the mail, but hadn’t. Whoever did this had figured out a way to circumvent that with a moisture strip and two lead-based lipstick SWAKs. Abby also said that Agent DiNozzo was infected. And that he could die. And, that despite the fact I delivered the letter, it wasn’t my fault. But, I still felt guilty.

They were here about the letter. I knew it would get their attention. I certainly left enough cookie crumbs to bring them here, to bring them to me. Now they just have to admit one of their precious little Midshipmen raped my poor girl and it’ll all be over. Sarah will have the peace she deserves, that she needs. When her rapist is arrested I’ll tell Doctor Pandy to hand over the cure and everything will be fine. They’ll see why I did this, why I had to do this, before it was too late, for Sarah and for me.

posting, even if only to get the thoughts out of your head and into some semblance of order, is a great idea
