Author's Notes: Written for the "under the influence"challenge at [community profile] tw100

He asks me if I know what I’m doing.  Damn tea boy.  Of course I do.  You flip this switch and then twist that lever and voilá!  Wait.  It’s not supposed to hiss like that.  At least I don’t think it is.

And it never starts to glow when Jack uses it.

Shit.

The next thing I know I’m lying on the floor and Jack and Ianto are talking about me like I’m not even there.

“What possessed Owen to touch a Korellian laser?  Was he drunk?  Under the influence of something?”

“Only terminal stupidity, Sir.”

Very funny.

Stupid gits.

Hey! This is first-person and I like it! Heh. I never get enough of Ianto giving Owen a hard time.

I think you've got a wee typo in your title. Unless you're making a political statement. :)

Oopsie. Thanks! Glad you liked it!Do you normally not like first person?

It sometimes makes me uncomfortable - I've been thinking about why, since that [livejournal.com profile] torchwood_meta discussion recently. I think it's because it's so intimate, and I'm not used to interacting with TV character that closely in a narrative. Just a personal thing, and I don't mind stretching myself. :)

Ah, interesting. Someone else mentioned basically the same thing on another piece I wrote in the first person. It's much harder to write 1st person, especially in any remotely believeable way.

I bet it is. You've done it well here, you got Owen's voice down so that I would have known who it was without his name being in it.

*blushes* Thanks! What a wonderful compliment!
