A meme and a ramble

Stealing two ideas from Jadesfire (sorry kiddo, sending virtual donuts now)

First, the photo meme.  I haz a camera, why not?

Tell me something to take a photo of and I'll interpret your request then snap a picture! It can be anything (family friendly!). Just a word for me to think about or something more specific!

And second, the happy list!

1. I've gotten a bunch of excellent comments on my bigbang, mostly from people I've never heard of before.  It's one thing for [profile] _medley_ to slap me upside the head and say, "Quit worrying!  It's good!"  But for random people to comment and tell you the same really reinforces it.

2. Apparently I can function on three hours sleep.  Although, as a result, basic math is more difficult (see #3).

3. When deciding it's hot out so you'll make only half a pot of coffee, it's usually a good idea to remember to half both the water and grinds and not just the water.  But, the resulting espresso-like drink is absolutely excellent, especially with a splash of chocolate sause.

4. I don't work on Wednesdays.  YAY!!!  (Although, apparently Wednesday is a word I can not spell without Mr. Spellchecker, boo!!!)

5. After my long rambling chat with Jades at some ungodly hour of the morning I have decided to attempt some longer type fics ideas I've been ignoring for ages.   No idea if anything will come of it, but at least I'll have tried.

(Those are vague photo prompts, I hope that's okay!)

I was up late last night, too, though not as late as you. I kept falling asleep on the floor while trying to grade papers and as a result didn't finish until 2:30 a.m. Blah. So I have to work all day on less than four hours of sleep, BUT high quality caffeinated tea is really improving my outlook. (And my math skills - you're so right.) And one of my students had a birthday and brought cake. Not as good as donuts, but I'll take it. :)

I finished your bigbang fic yesterday and will comment as soon as my attention can do it justice. :) But yay!

And yay for starting on some old fic ideas! That takes a lot of courage, but yes - trying is the only way it can happen. :)

Um. Sorry for all the smiley faces. I don't like to use them in lieu of actual words, but I think my brain is still a little fried.

Hope you can get better sleep tonight!

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-06-25 05:14 pm (UTC)(link)
hmm, interesting prompts!

Caffeine is important and wonderful, no matter the source! And free cake? that's wonderful! Yum!!

smiley faces are GOOD! As are exclamation points

[identity profile] jadesfire2808.livejournal.com 2008-06-25 05:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Hee. I'll forgive you this once *munches donuts*

I've become a big fan of happy lists. The rotten stuff tends to block it out, and although it doesn't always compensate, it's nice to remember it too.

For the photo meme: Fluffy

I haven't had a chance to get through the Big Bang fics yet *is bad mod* I need to finish the SGA one, then I'm going to print them out so I can scribble in the margins :) Glad you're thinking about having a prod at the stories. If you keep plugging away, something will happen eventually.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-06-25 05:16 pm (UTC)(link)
fluffy! excellent!

I've finished 5 or 6 bigbangs so far. Mostly Jack-related ones, which I'm sure doesn't surprise you in the least

[identity profile] kensieg.livejournal.com 2008-06-25 05:18 pm (UTC)(link)
library bookstore & garden. I'm glad to know you are a fan of exclamation points, since I overuse them.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-06-25 05:20 pm (UTC)(link)
ooh, I can definitely do something with those prompts.

Ellipses and exclamation points are my weakness. Much to my betas' dismays upon occasion.

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_medley_/ 2008-06-25 05:32 pm (UTC)(link)
SEE? I TOLD YOU. *g* Seriously, though, I'm so glad you're getting good feedback on your fic. All that work you did should be rewarded!

And yay, you for thinking about writing longer things!

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-06-25 05:37 pm (UTC)(link)
yes, yes, yes. *hangs head in shame* I should have listened to you. I should always listen to you

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_medley_/ 2008-06-25 05:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes. Yes you should. I'm glad you realize that. *g*

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-06-25 05:42 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm sorry.

From now on I shall sit at your feet as you impart all your worldly wisdom

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_medley_/ 2008-06-25 05:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Please. As if you aren't at LEAST as evil as I am.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-06-25 05:51 pm (UTC)(link)
*bats eyes innocently*

I learned everything I know from the best!

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_medley_/ 2008-06-25 05:57 pm (UTC)(link)
That innocent look doesn't work too well. (Bwah-I adore that icon. Rusty's drawings are just too adorable. I love them.)

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-06-25 06:00 pm (UTC)(link)
She's incredible. I wish I had skills like that.

*pouts* I can do innocent. Really!

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_medley_/ 2008-06-25 06:08 pm (UTC)(link)
You know, I can too, really. It's just that the people on my flist know me better than a lot of people who've met me in person. *g*

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-06-25 07:08 pm (UTC)(link)
those poor innocent shlubs that only know the non-LJ you... *shakes head*

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_medley_/ 2008-06-25 07:14 pm (UTC)(link)
I know! They don't stand a chance. *eg*

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-06-25 07:16 pm (UTC)(link)
I bet they don't even know about your founding memmber of the Evil Club status

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_medley_/ 2008-06-25 07:19 pm (UTC)(link)
They don't! It's like a secret identity. Except that my really good friends would not be surprised.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-06-25 07:21 pm (UTC)(link)
*nods* they have seen the inner-evil?

btw- you do realize Alex has been deviously working her inner evil magic of late- You don't want to fall behind, do you?

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_medley_/ 2008-06-25 07:23 pm (UTC)(link)
What's Alex been doing? I'd hate to fall behind, you're right.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-06-25 07:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Well there was the whole Seven's Bear commentfic that grew into it's own story.. and then there was Ianto in collar and chains (http://donutsweeper.livejournal.com/90368.html) (which will probably have a prequel soon after she betas it)

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_medley_/ 2008-06-25 07:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Prequel? *eg* Excellent. And aw, yeah, the bear thing was adorable.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-06-25 08:01 pm (UTC)(link)
it was really fun, I've never just done a back and forth comment fest like that. I suppose, in a way, it's a little similar to the role playing you guys do- the story develops as it goes with both of you doing the imput

I hang my head in shame over this whole Ianto in chains thing....

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_medley_/ 2008-06-25 08:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Round robin kinds of things are fun--I haven't done one of those since...well, high school, probably. Denise, Dena, Donna, and I passing notebooks back and forth. It is a bit like RP, except that everybody's dealing with all the characters. If that makes sense.

You're so ashamed of Ianto in chains that you wrote more? That's the kind of shame I can get behind. *eg*

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-06-25 08:09 pm (UTC)(link)
No, that makes sense- we were sharing Seven instead of each doing our own.

ummm, well, people kept asking for more so I started thinking *how* he got the chains...and it mushroomed. trying to keep it mostly IC was mighty hard

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_medley_/ 2008-06-25 08:33 pm (UTC)(link)
we were sharing Seven instead of each doing our own.

Yes! That's much clearer than what I was trying to say.

Heh--it's funny how those things just...grow. And yes, I bet keeping it in character was hard. Did you manage it, do you think? I bet you did.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-06-25 08:37 pm (UTC)(link)
well, I *think* it did. She had some suggestions/corrections on the first draft which I've done and returned to her. Keeping it short was key <500 words.

It's better than what she and [livejournal.com profile] the_dark_side dared me to write a few days ago because it's all fade to black-esque. This might get posted

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_medley_/ 2008-06-25 08:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, keeping it short would be helpful, I'd think!

What did they dare you to write? Dare I even ask?

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-06-25 08:41 pm (UTC)(link)
really crappy D/s that will NEVER EVER get posted. It's probably not worse than 90% of the stuff out there but considering that 90% is crap I have no desire to let it see the light of day. It might not have been bad, but, oh lord, it wasn't good.

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_medley_/ 2008-06-25 08:44 pm (UTC)(link)
*winces* One day we should have a deliberate badfic challenge thing, and you could post it there. Although I suspect it's not as bad as you think.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-06-25 08:46 pm (UTC)(link)
oh hell, go look (http://donutsweeper.livejournal.com/91317.html). I'll unlock it to you.

[identity profile] travels-in-time.livejournal.com 2008-06-25 10:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Yay longer fic from you!

Although I don't know why I'm excited about longer fic, I've yet to read any of the bigbang stuff from anyone. We're having a summer cleanout and it's eating all my free time.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-06-25 10:31 pm (UTC)(link)
evil real life. *grumbles at it for you* I've a few ideas. No idea if they'll pan out, but if I don't try then they absolutely won't, right?

[identity profile] travels-in-time.livejournal.com 2008-06-25 10:34 pm (UTC)(link)
RL IS evil, no doubt about it.

And yeah, the best way to find out is to try it!

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-06-25 10:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Any hope of downtime for you soon?

[identity profile] travels-in-time.livejournal.com 2008-06-27 02:38 am (UTC)(link)
Not in the next few weeks, for sure...after that, it depends. Of course, at that point school starts again. *headdesk*

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-06-27 02:39 am (UTC)(link)
Sorry! *hugs*

School for you or the kids?

[identity profile] travels-in-time.livejournal.com 2008-06-27 02:41 am (UTC)(link)
The kids. School starts August 6. *flails* School supplies! Uniforms! Open House/Enrollment!

...what summer vacation?

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-06-27 02:43 am (UTC)(link)
Aug 6th! Yipes! That's a whole month before my munchkins do!

Although... maybe things will be a little less hectic for you with the rugrats at school?

[identity profile] travels-in-time.livejournal.com 2008-06-27 02:52 am (UTC)(link)
Hee! I am in favor of your icon!

Nah, it gets worse when they're in school, because of homework and projects and such. During the summer they're in daycare with swimming and field trips, and they come home so worn out that you feed 'em, bathe 'em, and they pass out. Which is why it's a good time for housecleaning!

I've just about given up on the whole "writing" thing. Or the "watching S2 Torchwood" thing. Or indeed, anything involving free time at all.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-06-27 02:55 am (UTC)(link)
I commented (about writing/posting my Ianto-in-chains drabble) that being the engineer on the crazy train sounded much better than saying I was one of the inmates and now running the asylum and got quoted at metaquotes (metaquotes).

You have time and devote it to housework? Don't you know dust is a protective layer?

Maybe work will wind down soon and you'll have more time?

[identity profile] travels-in-time.livejournal.com 2008-06-27 03:00 am (UTC)(link)
Dust I don't mind. I embrace the bunnies!

It's when the shelves in my closet come crashing down because they're overloaded, and then the stuff covers the floors and I can't get to my clothes at all, that I realize that possibly Something Should Be Done.

I would tell you about work, but I don't want to depress you.

My grandfather was a conductor, and my whole family is nuts about trains. Some might argue that we're just nuts, period...

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-06-27 03:03 am (UTC)(link)
If you need/want to vent about work, I'm all ears!

My house is somewhat like that as well. I pretend not to see.

Nothing wrong with a little insanity, in my opinion, makes people more interesting!

[identity profile] smithy161.livejournal.com 2008-06-26 09:52 am (UTC)(link)
Summer! (Is your photo prompt, I mean. This wasn't just a random word fly-by post)

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-06-26 02:50 pm (UTC)(link)
I knew that! I'll see what I can do!
