The Stakeout

Title: The Stakeout
Pairing/Warning/Rating: NCIS fandom, vague Gibbs/DiNozzo, rated G
Word Count: 200
Summary:  Gibbs takes advantage of an opportunity to study DiNozzo.
Author's Note:  Written for the [profile] ncisdrabble100 challenge: profile

The car was cold, but Gibbs couldn’t turn on the heater without giving away their position and ruining the stakeout.  Not there had been much to see, the house was as empty now as it had been when he and Tony relieved McGee and Ziva six hours ago.

After awhile Gibbs ordered Tony to grab some shut eye, claiming it was a defensive measure.  “You’re a menace when you’ve got nothing to do, DiNozzo,” he’d said.  “Shut up and get some sleep.”  Tony had protested, but eventually capitulated under the agreement that he’d be woken in an hour so Gibbs could rest himself.

Gibbs had no intention of doing that; he had enough coffee to see him through to dawn, but he wasn’t about to admit it to Tony.  He welcomed the chance to study Tony like this, with his defenses down and not hiding behind whatever front he thought people wanted to see.  There was no frat boy grin.  No jokes or crass comments.  Just Tony, nothing else.  A strong profile, head resting against the window, mouth open just a bit, relaxed, serene.

Times like this were rare, and Gibbs was going to relish every opportunity that presented itself.

I'm pissed that it's on against NCIS- I mean really, I watch only 2 or 3 shows in prime time and they have to be on up against each other? Especially on a night I work? *VERY big sigh*

but holy crap- the House finale got me very, very excited for the new season, but this promo? *bouncing up and down*

Yeah, I think House beats NCIS this time around.

absofreakinlutely. Wilson's "I have the right to walk away from you House." just OMG

it's funny though, there was another new promo posted yesterday (the 3rd one that Fox has aired I think) that had a much different tone http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nqCEY4k-M5c) and it's so much less powerful/interesting

Networks are good at that sort of thing.

taking something that *should* be interesting and messing with it until they aren't? Yep- CBS did that with the NCIS promos for S5 last year

I really wanted to strangle whoever cut that promo together, because it was airing all the time on CBS so hard to miss and that scene in MTAC and at the burned out car would have been SO much more powerful, etc if we hadn't seen that short Tony elevator scene

I sort of hope someone got demoted for that.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-08-09 03:34 pm (UTC)(link)
or at least a caf-pow thrown at them

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2008-08-09 03:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah, but that would just be a waste of some perfectly good caffeine.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-08-09 03:39 pm (UTC)(link)
oooh, good point....

Gibbs could head slap them then. HARD

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2008-08-09 03:51 pm (UTC)(link)
I think that would be apt punishment.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-08-09 03:54 pm (UTC)(link)
and their coffee should be taken away too

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2008-08-09 04:52 pm (UTC)(link)
That would be the cherry on top for all the fans.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-08-09 06:32 pm (UTC)(link)
although, I could deal with crappy promos if the stories were, oh, actually decent and consistent

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-08-10 12:20 am (UTC)(link)
I'm beginning to think that will never happen though

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2008-08-11 06:18 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I know.
