Told You So
Title: Told You So
Pairing/Warning/Rating: NCIS fandom, no pairings, rated G
Word Count: 200
Summary: Tony was right and Kate was wrong, and he's not going to let her forget that any time soon.
Author's Note: Written for the
ncisdrabble100 challenge: bad idea
“I hate to say I told you so, Kate... but I told you so.”
“Fine. You were right. Is that what you want me to say, Tony? That you were right and I was wrong?”
“I told you it was a bad idea, Abby told you it was a bad idea even Ducky told you it was a bad idea, but you-”
“Ducky didn’t say it was a bad idea!”
“Fine, my mistake. Ducky told you it ‘might not be the smartest way of celebrating such a momentous occasion’ which boils down to pretty much the same thing.”
“But I thought...”
“Thought what, Kate? Thought that you knew better than we did? More like you didn’t think. For heaven’s sake, the man’s a marine. A marine!”
“I know that, Tony. I do. I just didn’t expect...”
“If you didn’t expect this kind of reaction then don’t know the marine mindset at all.”
“No, I guess I don’t.”
“But I guess you know better now, don’t you?”
“I definitely do.”
“Good, then you can get this mess cleaned up while I go find something patch up the bullet holes. And Kate?”
“Yeah, Tony?”
“No more surprise birthday parties for Gibbs, okay?”

I keep finding non-pairing drabbles of yours I'd somehow missed - which is nice for me.

Only once?
I know what you mean about finding some characters easier to write than others.
A lot of my stuff I label slash barely is, it might mention the 'lovers' word, but as for much beyond that . . . Very rare.

Plus I can virtually guarantee that any G/Di fen who read your G&Di stories will read with slashy glasses on :-) Which is probably why you have been labelled a G/Di writer.
(Like my G/D friends will have read my two recent ficlets with G/D glasses rather than G&D glasses).

a) I do it myself *g* Not with all gen stories, I must add, but with friends of mine who are primarily slash writers but are writing a gen story, then I do tend to read with slash goggles on - not consciously, it just sort of happens.
b) To my mind G/D are just so much a couple that even if I am writing gen (which this was) at the back of my mind they are together and this was just one of their exchanges that didn't touch on the romantic rather than fraternal love. Had it been a year or so ago, before I took up a couple of NCIS General Series challenges and branched out into other pairings and characters then I'd have automatically labelled it 'Slash. Established Relationship' but probably commented that it was purely off-screen and not even mentioned. With the vast majority of my G rated G/D stories if I changed the word 'lover' to 'friend' or 'dear friend' then the stories could easily be read as gen. And then some of the stories don't use the word 'lover' at all, nor in any way imply they are. They are what you see on the screen as whatever way people ship I've yet to come across anyone who can deny they are close friends. Heck I've heard more than one G/Di shipper say 'Ducky is the most important person in Gibbs's life' and 'Gibbs loves Ducky more than anyone'. And I think again it's hard to deny the fraternal love from what we see. I just took that one stage further.
c) I really don't mind how people read my stories to be honest. I guess I might get more upset if I were a hard and fast gen writer who had never written or even considered slash and someone commented they'd read it as slash - although knowing me and my personality I wouldn't. But I do know people have got very upset over that.
Once I get through my major September/early October projects I have a meta post on 'what makes a story slash' together with a poll that I really must post.

I look forward to your meta, it'll be interesting!

Mind you I was seeing 'slash' long, long, long before I even knew the term existed or indeed fandom existed. I was thinking I was weird to be having these thoughts (very mild like hand holding and the odd kiss kind of thoughts).
Thanks - I hope so.
