I bet it will still taste good.
Ahavia

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-11-26 10:22 pm (UTC)(link)
probably, but I think we'll keep it to eat on friday when it's just the family and not serve to guests!

Oh. Dear. Disturbance in the Force indeed. *pets*

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-11-26 10:23 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't know what happened. It looked fine when I turned it half way through baking....

I'm kind of glad I bothered with the cookie sheet and tinfoil right about now though

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_medley_/ 2008-11-26 10:55 pm (UTC)(link)
I was thinking that the tinfoil was a very good thing. *nods*

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-11-26 11:19 pm (UTC)(link)
I haven't peered under the foil to see if all the mess is contained.... I have hopes though

[identity profile] mad-jaks.livejournal.com 2008-11-26 10:42 pm (UTC)(link)
What's shoofly pie??

Distract me?

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-11-26 10:49 pm (UTC)(link)
it's a southern pie, not something I've made often but I wanted to do something other than our traditional pumpkin pie this year. It's either made with molasses or cane syrup (like my recipe) it's very sweet and gooey

[identity profile] mad-jaks.livejournal.com 2008-11-26 11:02 pm (UTC)(link)
It sounds like it should have currants in it. You know, like squashed fly biscuits?

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-11-26 11:06 pm (UTC)(link)
I think it's called shoo fly because it's so sweet and attracted flies. or something. I dunno. I don't think I'll be making it again

[identity profile] mad-jaks.livejournal.com 2008-11-26 11:08 pm (UTC)(link)
I went and Wiki'd - it doesn't seem to be the most 'definite' recipe on the planet...

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-11-26 11:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes! I blame the recipe. And the position of the moon. And my cat. And, and and... *sighs*

[identity profile] mad-jaks.livejournal.com 2008-11-26 11:31 pm (UTC)(link)
And the position of the moon

*falls over laughing*

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-11-26 11:33 pm (UTC)(link)
hey... it can effect tides and werewolves and ummmm....

[identity profile] mad-jaks.livejournal.com 2008-11-26 11:39 pm (UTC)(link)
AND???

Must go to bed soon

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-11-26 11:45 pm (UTC)(link)
you see the moon's gravitational pull caused the liquidy center to swish slightly to the side and jump out of the pie pan onto the cookie sheet. Not my fault. Not at all.

[identity profile] k-haldane.livejournal.com 2008-11-26 11:59 pm (UTC)(link)
My son has problems with quantuum flux variations moving through his bedroom and affecting his doona, causing it to mysteriously fold itself over inside its cover. Sometimes it's so bad I have to spread it out on the floor and crawl inside to get it straightened out.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-11-27 01:02 am (UTC)(link)
aha! Yes! those quantuum flux things got in my oven and messed up my pie! that was it!!

[identity profile] k-haldane.livejournal.com 2008-11-27 02:09 am (UTC)(link)
And I'd like to point out that this is still happening after I sewed velcro patches onto the doona and inside the cover, in order to fasten it down at all four corners.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-11-27 02:11 am (UTC)(link)
it's a conspiracy. evil sprites or elves out to get us

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-11-27 01:30 am (UTC)(link)
oops is right!

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2008-11-27 01:37 am (UTC)(link)
Somewhere, Dean Winchester is weeping right now.

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2008-11-27 02:05 am (UTC)(link)
He'll forgive you if you bake another.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-11-27 02:07 am (UTC)(link)
unfortunately I don't have the supplies. And I'm NOT heading to the supermarket now. I do have a lovely double layer pumpkin pie though.

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2008-11-27 02:13 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, man. I can't blame you.

I think a pumpkin pie is acceptable.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-11-27 02:17 am (UTC)(link)
And I have some homemade brownies I made for the Bat mitzvah and froze because they didn't get eaten so I defrosted them. brownies and pie=yum!

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-11-27 02:48 am (UTC)(link)
and messy disaster pie to eat when the guests go home

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-11-27 04:25 am (UTC)(link)
I nibbled some of the overboard goop before wrapping it up. Still tasty!

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2008-11-27 05:10 am (UTC)(link)
It usually is, even if it doesn't look so pretty.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-11-27 12:57 pm (UTC)(link)
luckily when its just cooking for ourselves, pretty doesn't matter as much

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2008-11-27 07:49 pm (UTC)(link)
That's always a good thing.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-11-27 09:25 pm (UTC)(link)
taste is more important than looks or presentation, right?

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2008-11-28 06:48 am (UTC)(link)
Right.

[identity profile] tintop-lizzy.livejournal.com 2008-11-27 02:08 am (UTC)(link)
I read it as shoofly pie, like a sort of "shuffle failure little thing" pie. Shoo (space) fly sounds ergh in comparison.

Everything looks better with sliced fruit on top of it...

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-11-27 02:12 am (UTC)(link)
:)

it won't come off the tinfoil so I'm putting this pie in the 'lost cause' category.. or at least "not for guests" category...

[identity profile] rustydog.livejournal.com 2008-11-28 07:15 am (UTC)(link)
Maybe it was the moon (though there's no or almost no mood right now I think!) but maybe your oven is protesting after it was worked so hard getting ready for the bat mitzvah. *g*

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-11-28 04:29 pm (UTC)(link)
ocen protests. That's an excuse explanation I can get behind.
