The Wolf at the Door

Title: The Wolf at the Door
Pairing/Rating/Warning: none, rated G
Word Count: 100
Summary: Jack and Diefenbaker have a heart-to-heart
Author's Note: Written superfast for the Timestamp Meme as requested by [personal profile] rustydog who wanted an hour before The Furry Doorstop.  Un-beta'ed.  Due South/ Torchwood crossover.

Jack stood barefoot by the stove, starting breakfast while Benton slept. He’d slipped his trousers on, but the braces were hanging loose.  Reaching down to scratch Diefenbaker behind the ear, he turned to make sure the wolf could read his lips.

“You’re looking good, Dief.”

Diefenbaker leaned into the scratch, wagging his tail.

“Benton seems to be doing well in Chicago.  He’s certainly happier than I’d expected him to be.  Although, I imagine he’s still getting into trouble now and again.”

The wolf huffed in response.

“But you’re looking out for him, right?”  Jack smiled.  “Course you are.  Good boy.”

It does.

What I meant was, the fact that he'd left them hanging meant he'd thought about pulling them up but didn't because he didn't have a T-shirt on.

Which sounds pretty stupid spelled out but that's the way my brain works, apparently.

I'll go with him shirtless. *g*

Oh, I thought maybe I miswrote it, I don't know much about braces/suspenders. Shirtless is always good, right?

Nope, I definitely misread it. :-)

And of course shirtless is good! *g*

I think nearly everyone here will agree with you on that!
