Prompts, Tables and Story Ideas

Since sometimes motivation is hard to come by here is a list of prompts, tables and list comms I sometimes troll to see if anything jumps out and gets the old muse interested.

[livejournal.com profile] 25moments and its prompt table

[livejournal.com profile] 15_song_titles and its song title prompt list

[livejournal.com profile] 36_plots and its prompt table

[livejournal.com profile] flashslash Tuesday prompts of 4 words to be written in 8 minutes.

[livejournal.com profile] 50scenes and its prompt table

[livejournal.com profile] prompted_quill daily, weekly and monthly prompts

[livejournal.com profile] alphabetasoup and its word lists (the comm does not appear to be accepting new claims but the lists are nice)

Ooh I like the idea of the song title one, but then I suppose that isn't exactly a surprise from me. *g*

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-03-28 04:46 pm (UTC)(link)
No, not at all *g* I'm sure there are a million more of these sorts of comms, and that's not even considering the fandom specific ones.

You already knew about [livejournal.com profile] set2music, right?

[identity profile] aeron-lanart.livejournal.com 2009-03-28 04:55 pm (UTC)(link)
I do, but for some reason I've never bothered doing a table. Maybe I should change that, though I'm still plugging away at my Original Character Challenge table (12 fics done, 13 to go!). I suppose I could always do both...

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-03-28 05:06 pm (UTC)(link)
actually having tables makes me get all freaked out, but I like looking at the suggested ones for story ideas.

[identity profile] aeron-lanart.livejournal.com 2009-03-28 05:33 pm (UTC)(link)
I find the table thing a little freak-making too, which is why I've only got the one, and it's one with no time limit! I'm hopeless with time-related challenges, only time I haven't been was when consci-fan-mo was running as that was an 'if you fell like it' thing not a 'must do' thing. Things that I must do tend to dry me up creatively (good example being Big Bang) even though I know I can do what they're asking.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-03-28 06:05 pm (UTC)(link)
I signed up for paliphrase ages ago and the 'must post once a month' thing made me go AAAUUUGGHH and freeze up. But [livejournal.com profile] consci_fan_mo was great and I managed something everyday. *shrugs* The muse is a weird thing.

[identity profile] aeron-lanart.livejournal.com 2009-03-28 06:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I had great fun doing that too. Didn't quite manage a fic a day, but I wasn't that far off it. Guess what I'll be doing this December? *g*

Signing up for the [livejournal.com profile] occhallenge thing has made me write more ficlets about Siannon's earlier life, something I'd never touched on before so I'm pretty pleased about that, especially with the last one which was her first meeting with Methos.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-03-28 06:22 pm (UTC)(link)
[livejournal.com profile] consci_fan_mo was just awesome. Freeing in a way. Most of the things I put up there I didn't wind up posting to other comms so it felt like I could branch out more and try stuff I normally wouldn't (like original fic!).

I love when friends post prompts or something that gets me to think of things from a different direction, like the occhallenge is doing for you. There's been plenty of times when I've been *headscratch* 'how's that going to work?' But then it does and it's exciting.

[identity profile] nakeisha.livejournal.com 2009-03-28 04:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Do you know how dangerous this kind of post is to a challenge addict like me? *Giggles*

*Sits on hands*

Hmmmm, I even spy the one I hadn't come across.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-03-28 04:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Wow, and I thought you were the table Queen!

[identity profile] nakeisha.livejournal.com 2009-03-28 05:00 pm (UTC)(link)
*Smiles*

I think there are quite a few I don't know of - although I do haunt [livejournal.com profile] 150_comms from time to time . . .

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-03-28 05:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Now that's a neat one too- all sorts of useful links in one place

[identity profile] nakeisha.livejournal.com 2009-03-28 05:14 pm (UTC)(link)
I know.

Kiddy in a sweet shop time :-)

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-03-28 05:16 pm (UTC)(link)
say no to the pretty prompt tables, just say no...

[identity profile] nakeisha.livejournal.com 2009-03-28 05:39 pm (UTC)(link)
It's very hard.

I'm being 'good'. No more until I've finished my pairing specific ones - or at least two of them *nods*

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-03-28 06:06 pm (UTC)(link)
How many pairing ones do you have?

[identity profile] nakeisha.livejournal.com 2009-03-28 06:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Left to finish?

Three Gibbs/Ducky

One Silver/Steel

And two multi-pairing/genre ones.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-03-28 06:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh dear, that is a lot. Do you have other tables as well?

[identity profile] nakeisha.livejournal.com 2009-03-29 11:27 am (UTC)(link)
Ah, well, actually I don't see it as a lot - but then I have finished some twenty-six challenges. So . . .

Actually there is one I missed - my own 100 Triple Drabbles for NCIS General Series.

So seven tables left in all.

[identity profile] nakeisha.livejournal.com 2009-03-30 11:12 am (UTC)(link)
I don't/can't to be honest do a lot else, so . . .

It keeps me sane (of course that's a relative term).

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-03-30 05:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Sanity is overrated. *nods*

[identity profile] nakeisha.livejournal.com 2009-03-30 05:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, it most definitely is.

[identity profile] rustydog.livejournal.com 2009-04-04 01:57 pm (UTC)(link)
These are cool, thank you! I'm saving several. I know there will be a time in the future when I want more inspiration (rather than needing more time for the ideas that I've already got piled up *g*)

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-04-04 04:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Glad you think you can use them. But, having too many ideas for the time you've got is a nice feeling too!

[identity profile] rustydog.livejournal.com 2009-04-04 10:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, sometimes it just means that I've got zero time and one idea, but yeah, I guess I'd rather have something in my head for later than have time but nothing in my head. When I feel empty, though, I know I can go for some of these prompts. I like the alphabet one. I doubt I would do all the letters, and certainly not in the time frame, but I'd pillage it for my own purposes. :)

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-04-04 11:00 pm (UTC)(link)
purposeful pillaging. I like that idea!
