Adventures of the Coffeepocalypse

I discovered I was out of coffee this morning so decided to stop and pick up a cup and some beans at the coffee shop that opened recently near the kids school.

I dropped the kids off, parked there and walked to the shop (4 blocks, exercise is good, right?) Once there I examined the menu. And discovered all the drinks have cutesy names (storybook creatures).

I am in trouble.

So I order what I hope is a large latte.

I pay and wait for them to make the drink. Take a sip. No idea what it was, but it wasn't bad.

Then I remember the beans.

Put the drink down and ask for the pound of beans and for them to be ground. Pay for that. Get the beans and walk to the car. And realize I didn't have the drink.

Oops.

Back to store, get drink (where I left it, thankfully) and trip on stack of newspapers on floor and spill drink everywhere. Nice person behind the counter makes me another. Trudge back to car and realize I left the beans at the store.

Double oops.

Back to store. Nice person behind counter does not laugh when I walk in again. Make it back to the car with beans and coffee. Then I somehow get lost driving home. I've only driven this route every school day for five years.....

The coffeepocalypse is upon us.

Now if you wrote that I swear hardly anyone would actually believe you. Truth is so much stranger than fiction.

I'm glad you, the coffee and the coffeebeans made it home safely in the end.

*headcar* doesn't have the same ring to it as *headdesk* but it was certainly that sort of morning. My coffee maker is happily burbling away now though and my not-quite latte has been finished so all is right with the world. :)

[identity profile] nakeisha.livejournal.com 2009-04-17 03:33 pm (UTC)(link)
It doesn't, no. I can well imagine it was.

Ooh, now that does indeed sound as if everything is right again. Enjoy!

*passes extra-large mug* It sounds like you need it!

Why is it that we all perform complex tasks without even blinking, but when it comes to simple things like remembering what we went upstairs for, we draw a complete blank? It's weird...

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-04-17 03:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh yes! The old 'I opened the closet for a reason....' brain freeze moment! I'm glad I'm not the only one who does that! :)

LOL!

Oh one of those days! I had a horrible coffee day about two weeks ago. I was out of all coffee (I am a coffee snob who will have three different types of coffee plus cappicino mix) and decided to make a run because I needed my caffeine. I live next to my mom (she LOVES that,50% of the time I do her errands around town) so I asked her if she needed me to pick anything up since I was going to the store anyway. She gives me a small list. I end up getting everything but my coffee because I get called three times in the store so she can tell me to pick something else up, and then a fourth time to swing by and get her medicine which came in. I get home, and still no coffee, I stole mom's decaff just to have pretend coffee.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-04-17 03:21 pm (UTC)(link)
oh GAH! I've done that too. Picked up a ton of things while on errands except the one thing that prompted me to do errands in the first place!

[identity profile] kateri-e.livejournal.com 2009-04-17 03:32 pm (UTC)(link)
The sad thing was the only thing of mine that I needed besides the coffee was more half and half and that I remembered. I can't tell you the amount of times I would print out a paper a day or two ahead of time, staple it and everything then leave it on the desk and then have to run around ten minutes before class trying to get it reprinted up on campus.

XD glad you made it home safe, though!

:) I was then yelled at by the cat for being late with his morning snack though.

[identity profile] stackcats.livejournal.com 2009-04-17 03:25 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm glad that happens to other people. One of my cats in particular is fond of telling us off if we're too slow with food, or sit in his seat, or whatever. He's got a very stern 'meow'!

Coffeepocalypse! I should have an icon for that...

Glad you made it home. Can you hide out and drink more coffee for the rest of the day?

[identity profile] rustydog.livejournal.com 2009-04-17 05:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Meant to give you a GOOBA...

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-04-17 05:37 pm (UTC)(link)
I forgot to stop at the supermarket and pick up milk, but I think I'm writing off the day as a lost cause.

heee. what would a Coffeepocalypse icon be? An empty cup? A spilled one?

This definitely sounds like one of my adventures. I am virtually incapable of going shopping without forgetting at least thing that it was VERY IMPORTANT I get. And if I get sidelined or distracted by something else, I can easily lose things that I swore were IN MY HAND.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-04-17 06:26 pm (UTC)(link)
*clings* exactly!!! How do we manage that?

[identity profile] karaokegal.livejournal.com 2009-04-18 11:05 pm (UTC)(link)
And how's this for genius...I just took a jacket to have the zipper replaced and managed to leave it at the shop...with my keys in the pocket.

[identity profile] phoenix64.livejournal.com 2009-04-18 02:58 am (UTC)(link)
Gah! Well, at least you eventually made it home safely.

The coffee shop opened close to the school? Trying to hook 'em while they're young with the cutesy names and such I'd guess. Hey, I got no problem with it.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-04-18 03:01 am (UTC)(link)
I think it's more hook the moms when they drop off the kids. And cater to the preschool kids (with toys and treats) so when the moms pick up the little ones (3 and 4 year olds only go half day) they'll head over to the coffee shop to meet.

Although the jr high kids can request to go their for lunch (in a small group 2 days a week) so there is that too.

It seems like a good place. And I like supporting mom and pop places over the chains.

I have an advantage in that we have more than one local roaster that produces awesome coffee. I just don't see how people can drink Starbucks, really.

[identity profile] chatona.livejournal.com 2009-04-19 08:18 pm (UTC)(link)
... I-- Sorry, but *laughs*

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-04-19 08:22 pm (UTC)(link)
oh, go ahead and laugh, it was funny. once I GOT my coffee that is.

Nice person behind counter does not laugh when I walk in again.

I commend them, and probably would've given them a tip for that.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-04-22 02:26 am (UTC)(link)
I'd already given a pretty decent tip (had them throw all my change, somewhere like $1.20 in the jar) but yes. Not laughing was good.
