Cliche Bingo

Clichés. We love 'em. Bodyswap, genderswap, telepathy, amnesia, Aliens Made Them Do It, Fuck or Die, Hypothermia, alternate universes -- in fandom, if a story's worth telling, it's worth telling many, many times.

And so we bring you Cliché Bingo. The aim is twofold: firstly, to bring more cliché fic into the world (because you can never have enough bodyswap stories) and, secondly, to encourage people to look again at well-worn clichés, and maybe think of fresh new twists on them.

My card:

The rules. The sign-up post, if anyone's interested.

Looks fun. I wait with baited breath to see what you do with it!

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-06-22 06:44 pm (UTC)(link)
I need to figure out how to change it so it's a table so there are links and not just a picture. But YES. *cackles* such potential!!

[identity profile] jadesfire.livejournal.com 2009-06-22 06:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Hee, I'm still waiting for my card (which will be Gen only ;)). Although good grief what on earth is your Wildcard?? That's one scary fella...

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-06-22 06:45 pm (UTC)(link)
I decided not to ask for gen, since I figured most prompts could be interpreted that way. But YAY! We can have a lot of fun with these I think!! (And my wildcard guy does look awful scary!)

question- do you know how to set the card up as a table so the prompts can me turned into clickable links?

[identity profile] jadesfire.livejournal.com 2009-06-22 06:50 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't know if that's even possible with a Jpeg. Since [livejournal.com profile] friendshipper who made them is on my flist, I'll ask when I post mine. But you might have to write an html table (I have a template somewhere) for that to work.

I have mine, except I'm not on my computer and don't know my Photobucket password. I'm off to wrestle with LJ's Scrapbook which I HATE, using a computer with a space bar that doesn't work properly *hits it* (you have to do that to make it work...)

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-06-22 06:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Oooh, that's an idea but I don't know how to make a html table, I'd appreciate your template when you get a chance. No rush obviously.

Computers. Sometimes they make everything SO much more difficult, don't they?

[identity profile] jadesfire.livejournal.com 2009-06-22 07:05 pm (UTC)(link)
My thumbs hurt from hitting it, and I've only been typing for 15 mins *sigh*

Well, I've just posted mine (which I'm delighted with, because apparently cliche fic is ALL I WRITE *facepalm), so I'll let you know, and also work on the html ;)

Going back to the Gen thing, I would have been fairly happy with most of the 'universal' prompts, but probably would have struggled with "F*** or die", and with the way my luck goes, it wasn't worth the risk...

[identity profile] travels-in-time.livejournal.com 2009-06-22 07:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, you could always write the "...or die" ending. That'd be new and interesting! And if it's Jack, it's not like it's a big deal...

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-06-22 07:09 pm (UTC)(link)
I got "Character Death" as a prompt. Would Jack count?

[identity profile] travels-in-time.livejournal.com 2009-06-22 07:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Jack counts for EVERYTHING. Come on, he's a cliche prompt table all by himself!

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-06-22 07:12 pm (UTC)(link)
He totally, totally is. LGotta love him

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-06-22 07:08 pm (UTC)(link)
seriously, I looked at the cliches I got and thought they were pretty much what I write! If I got f** or die I was going to write a curse bomb story (where all people could do was say obscure curses) or something like that

[identity profile] cat-77.livejournal.com 2009-06-22 07:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah! Someone else I know fell for it is doing it too!

[livejournal.com profile] crysothemis put hers up in html format to be able to use links. I asked her how she did it, but on the off chance she does not share the trade secret, I'm debating trying my WYSIWYG program and then copying the coding. Sad yes, but possibly effective. :)

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-06-22 07:10 pm (UTC)(link)
:) Fell for it is quite apt I think!

I know there are ways to do with with html links. Hopefully someone will share the knowledge!

[identity profile] travels-in-time.livejournal.com 2009-06-22 07:09 pm (UTC)(link)
I keep TELLING y'all, my fic is broken! Why do you keep teasing me with fests and games and such?

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-06-22 07:10 pm (UTC)(link)
*passes donuts* sorry. Sometimes all it takes is the right prompt though! OR at least for me

[identity profile] 51stcenturyfox.livejournal.com 2009-06-22 07:31 pm (UTC)(link)
"Hey, it's that guy."

LOL!

Oh man, that list of cliches is like a list of comment battle prompts. (YEAH.)

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-06-22 07:33 pm (UTC)(link)
oooh, that's very true. I expect many will wind up fairly crack!ficish, but oh well!

[identity profile] haldane.livejournal.com 2009-06-22 10:21 pm (UTC)(link)
I have the html to do a table from when I started one in the House fandom. I never finished it, but there are at least four or five LJ entries with the part-done table.

Is this what you want:

(if it is, I'll give you a copy of the table part of the entry so you can adjust it to suit.)

someone found me a table that is usually used for kink bingo, I think I can adapt it, but thanks anyway!

[identity profile] chatona.livejournal.com 2009-06-23 07:50 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, yay! I do love cliché fics!

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-06-23 01:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Is it still cliché if it's also crack?

[identity profile] chatona.livejournal.com 2009-06-25 06:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Hm, I'm not sure? Maybe, but in a good way?

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-06-25 06:58 pm (UTC)(link)
cliche, crack.. both are good, right?

[identity profile] chatona.livejournal.com 2009-06-25 07:01 pm (UTC)(link)
YES! ... as long as they're well done.

[identity profile] nakeisha.livejournal.com 2009-06-23 11:03 am (UTC)(link)
This looks like fun - enjoy!

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-06-23 01:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Sadly, I've actually written several of these cliche's before, but with luck I'll have fun writing them again. Thanks!

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2009-06-24 07:12 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, dear god...

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-06-24 03:10 pm (UTC)(link)
now that is the perfect reaction....

I can't decide if this is the worst or the best idea ever.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-06-25 12:51 pm (UTC)(link)
depends how much you like crack (since that's what mine will probably wind up being)

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2009-06-26 06:35 am (UTC)(link)
Good point. Best idea.
