Torchwood 3x04 reaction post

Just one teeny weenie little thing:

What happened to the glowy kiss of life?

Okay, I lied one more thing, 5 more words:

Alice continued to be awesome.

My theory is that the glowy kiss of life ceased to work after Abbadon even though Jack is still a fixed point in time.

I am NOT HAPPY and cannot sleep.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-07-10 02:06 am (UTC)(link)
Oooh, I like that idea. It would explain it's lack of use in S2.

Me either. I'd been spoiled (thanks to morons who don't know how to lj-cut) but still. donutsweeper is a grumpy gal.

I need silly or cute or fluffy fic now.

[identity profile] aeron-lanart.livejournal.com 2009-07-10 02:15 am (UTC)(link)
Well I have some potential comforts in store...

1 of my flist has already made Ianto a Highlander style immortal, with Amanda as his teacher no less (it works the way she tells it).

Denial Universe Fic - I'm sure Ianto would love to see Tosh and Owen again, plus as Jack keeps dying Ianto could get to see him, too. For Jack this could end up meaning that the 'something in the darkness' isn't a bad thing after all.

Methos/Jack.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-07-10 02:16 am (UTC)(link)
ooooh YES! A revisit to denial universe!!!

Methos/Jack is always a good thing too.... :)

[identity profile] mad-jaks.livejournal.com 2009-07-10 04:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Methos/Jack post Part 4 oh...

We'd get the old man at his best.

Denial Universe Fic - I'm sure Ianto would love to see Tosh and Owen again,
So is that like they're all off living their deaths? With occasional visits fromt he man in the greatcoat? That could work.

[identity profile] skipthedemon.livejournal.com 2009-07-10 02:16 am (UTC)(link)
I think the glowy kiss of life only worked then the damage is...finished. And can only be done if the brain isn't completely dead. It's kinda like guaranteed CPR, maybe? I think if Ianto had come back he'd have just died all over again.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-07-10 02:17 am (UTC)(link)
hmmm, that's a decent explanation. Sort of like- it only works if there is X amount of life left to spark?

[identity profile] aeron-lanart.livejournal.com 2009-07-10 02:20 am (UTC)(link)
Injured/traumatised, but not to the point of dying? Yeah, that works. And could work right alongside my theory too.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-07-10 02:22 am (UTC)(link)
yep- both theories work. I do wish tptb would put a little more thought into how Jack's power works- sometimes there is the OMG I'm alive gasp, sometimes not, sometimes he's completely bodily healed before reanimating, sometimes not. But oh well. That's what fanon and fanfic are for!

[identity profile] skipthedemon.livejournal.com 2009-07-10 02:24 am (UTC)(link)
I think Ianto was electrocuted back in Cyberwoman? It's been a while since I've seen it. So he was 'dead'. Heart stopped, I would guess. But with luck and treatment with ordinary medical science he could have been saved, with a set of paddles or CPR. Jack restarted his heart, basically. Such is my theory.

This time the virus would have just kept eating at him.

[identity profile] merucha.livejournal.com 2009-07-10 02:25 am (UTC)(link)
I myself plan to ignore all of Series 3 in my fan fiction. It.DID.NOT.HAPPEN.

Yes, I like sailing in Egypt, why do you ask?

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-07-10 02:27 am (UTC)(link)
There is still one more episode. This is TW, maybe things will change?

Most fanfic I've read and written still have Tosh and Owen, so I think you're safe on that particular river. And have lots of company. :)

*points to icon*

Which I seem to be doing an awful lot...

Hey, I'm a Highlander fan - and a Richie fan - I'm *well* practised at swimming in Denial.

The situation does give me the potential for some major Jack/Methos angst though, but not just yet.

[identity profile] adafrog.livejournal.com 2009-07-10 02:35 am (UTC)(link)
I was wondering about that, too. Although Jack did die, as well.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-07-10 02:37 am (UTC)(link)
some of the theories people came up with are good-

1) Jack's excess power that enabled him to do that was drained by Abaddon

and/or

2)It can only be done if there was an ability to save the person- a certain amount of life left in them or an environment conducive to bringing them back, that sort of thing.

[identity profile] adafrog.livejournal.com 2009-07-10 03:56 pm (UTC)(link)
I think it's a combination of #2, and the fact that Jack didn't have any energy-he was using it himself at the time.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-07-10 03:57 pm (UTC)(link)
true- he was dying himself. And it did take him quite some time to come back.

[identity profile] adafrog.livejournal.com 2009-07-10 04:05 pm (UTC)(link)
It took a long time for him to come back-if they had time to gather all the bodies, and place them somewhere. Although, I wonder if the writers did that because they didn't want everyone knowing about Jack's inability to die.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-07-10 04:06 pm (UTC)(link)
the clearing out of the building should have taken more than a day- especially since tests would have needed to be done to make sure that the rescuers could get the doors open and get in there.

Ack, I meant to add that to my reaction post too!

But yeah, like [livejournal.com profile] aeron_lanart says, I think there's more and more evidence that it doesn't work any more. :-(

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-07-10 12:43 pm (UTC)(link)
which is too bad, it was a bit odd, but I liked the glowy kiss of life.

[identity profile] mad-jaks.livejournal.com 2009-07-10 04:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah glowy kiss of life, how we miss thee ;-)

She did!

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-07-10 04:09 pm (UTC)(link)
I really wish RTD or tptb or SOMEONE would take 5 seconds and explain a bit about Jack's magic life force and how it works- does his body have to be healed to come back or not? Is there the gasp when he comes back or not? Does he have the glowy kiss or not? Will this ever make sense or not?

[identity profile] mad-jaks.livejournal.com 2009-07-10 04:17 pm (UTC)(link)
The gasps seem to have become a staple - and they got *really* hammy toward the end of last season, so I was quite pleased to see Jack being all quiet when he needed to be the other day.

Will this ever make sense or not?
On balance? Not.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-07-10 04:19 pm (UTC)(link)
except in DW S4 where he comes back completely silently....

[identity profile] mad-jaks.livejournal.com 2009-07-10 04:21 pm (UTC)(link)

Is he in *ahem* mortal danger at the time?

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-07-10 04:22 pm (UTC)(link)
I think Jack just comes back however works best for the writers...
