(Yeah, there were other things, but that plot point bugs me for some reason)

The six month jump was very abrupt, but I see why it needed to happen. If we hadn't jumped six months, it would have been a six- or seven-hour miniseries instead. There's a whole series you can make about the world going to hell during those six months.

But somehow, it came out fine. For Gwen and Rhys, at least.

I think they could have just had Gwen and Jack meeting up, with a week having passed or something... but maybe you're right.

And I am glad things worked out for Rhys and Gwen though.
