Minor NCIS and NCIS:LA comment

Tony never heard of Doctor Who? I liked the reference by McGee, but although Tim should have know better to call him "Doctor Who" instead of "The Doctor."

Tim: Wow, this is like the TARDIS

Tony: Tard-what?

Tim: It's the contraption Doctor Who that travels through time in

Tony: Doctor Who? Who the hell watches that.

And it was nice to see NCIS:LA make mention that Macy had been in charge earlier.

Wow, Kensi kicks butt.

Tony never heard of Doctor Who? I liked the reference by McGee, but....

I thought that's what he was saying at first, but I think he really was saying: "Doctor Who? Who really watches that?"

Might need a second look to be sure....

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-11-18 04:31 am (UTC)(link)
I had to tape it because I was out, I might watch it again.

It bugs me that Tim used "Doctor Who" like it was the man's name. It's not.

[identity profile] kaylashay.livejournal.com 2009-11-18 04:35 am (UTC)(link)
So true... I know that and I don't watch Doctor Who...

I think Tony might have said a bit of both... acting like he didn't know, then switching to the 'who watches that'. He was probably trying to play on the 'who' aspect...

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-11-18 04:36 am (UTC)(link)
Ah, maybe. I'm finishing up NCIS:LA and then I'll rewatch the scene

[identity profile] awanderingbard.livejournal.com 2009-11-18 05:04 am (UTC)(link)
Tony did cut short his explanation, maybe he was going for general knowledge and was then going to go into 'well, actually most people think that's his name, but...' etc?

You're always so much more eagle eyed and eared than me. I missed that completely. I mean, I got the reference, but not the name thing.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-11-18 05:10 am (UTC)(link)
I don't know why I notice that sort of thing, I just usually do.

I can see that most people would think that was his name, but a science fiction geek? No. It's OOC for McGee to get it wrong, in my opinion.

[identity profile] phoenix64.livejournal.com 2009-11-18 03:42 pm (UTC)(link)
OK, this is one of those nitpicks I see a lot that is not strictly accurate. I could see McGee only having watched classic Who, and here's the thing: while he never called himself "Doctor Who" on screen, in other ways he was referred to as "Doctor Who", such as in the credits. So it's not necessarily always just wrong to refer to the character by that name.

Still skipping NCIS for V, and still enjoying NCIS:LA.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-11-18 03:45 pm (UTC)(link)
I thought the only time he was credited as Doctor Who was Nine's era. I know it's nitpicky, I just can't believe any real scifi fan would call him that.

[identity profile] phoenix64.livejournal.com 2009-11-19 04:07 am (UTC)(link)
No, see, my point is that it's not always a legitimate nitpick at all; coming from a Classic Who standpoint it's not wrong to refer to the character as Doctor Who. I know plenty of geeks who aren't that much into New Who but are familiar with Classic Who.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-11-19 04:08 am (UTC)(link)
Ah. Maybe. I've just never heard a fan refer to him as anything other then 'the Doctor' or by the number.

[identity profile] phoenix64.livejournal.com 2009-11-19 04:17 am (UTC)(link)
It's mostly a Classic Who vs. New Who thing. Like I said, even though the character never called himself "Doctor Who", there were other things, not just the credits but things like the question marks on his clothes through multiple regenerations that made that an acceptable reference. And if you really want to get into it, Peter Cushing's portrayal, for instance, did refer to himself as "Doctor Who".

[identity profile] karaokegal.livejournal.com 2009-11-19 02:23 am (UTC)(link)
The last good Dr. Who reference was from Don Flack on CSI-NY about two years ago.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-11-19 02:29 am (UTC)(link)
There is not enough Doctor Who love out there. Although, there was a Torchwood/Capt Jack reference last year for Halloween when a character dressed as him on "Knight Rider"

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2009-11-20 11:01 am (UTC)(link)
I remember that. I think I scared my housemate when that happened, what with all the squeeing.

[identity profile] karaokegal.livejournal.com 2009-11-20 04:16 pm (UTC)(link)
I know I wasn't spoiled for that one, so it was a major Squeeeeee moment. And it was even more adorable because while one would have assumed McGee to be a sci-fi geek, Flack....not so much.

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2009-11-20 10:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Exactly.

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2009-11-20 11:00 am (UTC)(link)
Not only that, but THE DOCTOR WOULD NEVER HAVE GUNS IN THE TARDIS.

Geek fail, McGee. Geek. Fail.

Kensi is awesome.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-11-20 03:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, and the reference also didn't make much sense because it didn't seem much bigger inside than outside

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-11-21 01:16 am (UTC)(link)
but they made their attempt at being cool? So... yay?

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2009-11-21 01:18 am (UTC)(link)
I suppose they do get SOME credit.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-11-21 01:19 am (UTC)(link)
we need more shirtless Tony, G, or Sam though. That'll put them firmly in the credit category

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-11-21 01:25 am (UTC)(link)
Or shirtless threesome? y/y?

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-11-21 01:29 am (UTC)(link)
I thought you might approve. G and Sam are definitely an item, they flirt way to much to be anything else

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2009-11-21 01:30 am (UTC)(link)
Definitely. It's ridiculously adorable.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-11-21 01:31 am (UTC)(link)
And they randomly touch each other an awful lot

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2009-11-21 01:46 am (UTC)(link)
And everyone keeps asking when they got married.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-11-21 01:58 am (UTC)(link)
and they are so nice to look at too...

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-11-21 02:13 am (UTC)(link)
more shows need massively pretty like that

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-11-21 02:30 am (UTC)(link)
NCIS:LA has far too many pretties. G, Sam, Kensi, even Nate, Eric and Green aren't bad- which leaves Hetty by her lonesome, but oh well

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2009-11-21 02:33 am (UTC)(link)
So true. I think Nate is adorable, and Hetty is just awesome.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-11-21 02:34 am (UTC)(link)
Hetty is awesome in a totally scary and powerful way

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2009-11-21 02:37 am (UTC)(link)
Yes. She's got that creepy "I hear everything" thing going for her, too.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-11-21 02:39 am (UTC)(link)
She totally does. They push it a little too far sometimes, but it's still cool

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2009-11-21 06:41 am (UTC)(link)
Like this week. "I heard that." "But how?"

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-11-21 03:43 pm (UTC)(link)
her computer thing was a little silly, with the tiny chair and being locked away in a cabinet like that, but they seem to realize they're playing it for laughs so it works

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2009-11-22 06:56 am (UTC)(link)
I'm convinced the entire purpose of that computer was to make Nate look as ridiculous as possible.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-11-22 03:58 pm (UTC)(link)
And he certainly did look ridiculous!

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-11-23 01:20 am (UTC)(link)
Nate's all cuddly and cute

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-11-23 01:24 am (UTC)(link)
He's a wonderful Papa Bear for the LA team, isn't he?

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-11-23 01:37 am (UTC)(link)
I loved the episode (one before last I think) where he debated pulling G, that things were getting too close to the heart for him. He hit it all (the concern and whatnot) just perfectly

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2009-11-23 02:01 am (UTC)(link)
I love the chats he has with Heddy in that one.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-11-23 02:03 am (UTC)(link)
She kept trying to get him to see the bigger picture and he was just all worried and concerned

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2009-11-23 02:09 am (UTC)(link)
I like how, instead of getting all upset about him considering going to the director, she just calmly pointed out the benefit of letting Callen stay on the case.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-11-23 02:10 am (UTC)(link)
She is SO much better than Macy was. Lord, Macy made no sense

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2009-11-23 02:26 am (UTC)(link)
I'm quite glad they replaced her.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-11-23 02:27 am (UTC)(link)
And her 'secret history with Gibbs' made me want to throw things

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2009-11-23 02:38 am (UTC)(link)
They use Gibbs' past in that manner way too often.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-11-23 02:39 am (UTC)(link)
It was also factually incorrect for previously presented canon.

NCIS bugs the crap out of me for its inability to keep canon straight

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2009-11-23 02:41 am (UTC)(link)
And I have little hope for NCIS: LA doing any better.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-11-23 02:42 am (UTC)(link)
They've already borked the math with G's foster homes. I can't remember the numbers now, but it averaged as 5 mths per home or something and Nate had said the 4 mths G spent in the russian girl's home was the longest ever

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2009-11-23 02:56 am (UTC)(link)
Math is obviously not the NCIS crew's strong suit.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-11-23 02:59 am (UTC)(link)
it really really isn't.

I have very low expectations for G's reveal. What they've teased out of his history makes NO SENSE

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2009-11-23 03:11 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I'm not exactly looking forward to that.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-11-23 03:16 am (UTC)(link)
I have no expectation that SB planned it out ahead of time or anything sensible like that.

The whole "G? That's not a name!' "That's all anyone's ever told me." proves that

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2009-11-23 03:19 am (UTC)(link)
Few shows do such logical things as plan ahead, these days.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-11-23 03:23 am (UTC)(link)
which is a damn shame. I mean no one is ever going to plan like JMS did for Babylon 5, but three seconds of forethought would be nice upon occasion

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-11-23 03:48 am (UTC)(link)
why it has to be so damn rare boggles my mind

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2009-11-23 04:06 am (UTC)(link)
I know. I feel not enough of these people are making shows from a fan's perspective.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-11-23 04:07 am (UTC)(link)
you'd think it'd be the perspective of someone who cared about their work

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2009-11-23 04:22 am (UTC)(link)
You'd think. I feel money is the more often the motivator, however.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-11-23 04:23 am (UTC)(link)
Although NCIS is doing amazingly somehow, despite all the muck-ups

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2009-11-23 05:54 am (UTC)(link)
I still don't understand that.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-11-23 02:05 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't either this season has been BAD

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-11-24 06:33 am (UTC)(link)
although I have high hopes for the 150th and Tony's dad showing up.

I'm sure they will be dashed (if not trounced) but still... the hope shines brightly

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2009-11-24 07:08 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I'm actually looking forward to that.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-11-24 03:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Robert Wagner, it should be interesting, especially since MW PLAYED Robert Wagner in a tv movie!

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2009-11-25 07:00 am (UTC)(link)
Definitely. If nothing else, I'm sure it'll be fun.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-11-25 03:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Although, if it sucks, it might be the end of NCIS for me. this week's made me embarrassed to be a fan

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2009-11-26 06:32 am (UTC)(link)
I'm sort of wondering how much longer the show is going to go.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-11-26 06:36 am (UTC)(link)
It's #1. I would be surprised if there isn't at LEAST another 2 or 3 years in it.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-11-26 07:17 am (UTC)(link)
Exactly. Which is sad, I used to LOVE the show

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2009-11-26 07:29 am (UTC)(link)
Same here.
