Memo from Work

Work I received the following memo at work yesterday:

"The pledge forms for your annual United Way donation are due in Ann's office by noon on Friday.  Remember, there is a mandatory 100% participation rate in this voluntary fund drive."

It's "voluntary"... yet "participation is mandatory."  Someone in the head office must be using a different dictionary than I do.  *Sigh*

It's manager-ese :) It's a whole other language...

So the higher up the food chain someone works the less sense they can make? This explains much...

I spent far too long wading through management books for my (abandoned) dissertation title. Trust me, it's much worse once they get published...

Luckily I'm in the wrong line of work for that!

I like the way they even got it into the same sentence like that. ::shakes head::

True.. pithy and nonsensical, what more can you ask from a boss?

Send in a penny. Or a Canadian dime. Something to click the "participated" box but that will be totally worthless to them.

(Icon for you, not directed at you.)

You're evil. I like that.

I try my best. :D

We get that whole United Way scam pressure here. "The Sheriff gets a list of everyone who donated, and he keeps track! He likes everybody to do their civic duty!"

Well, guess what. MY NAME'S NOT ON THE LIST, and the Sheriff can SUCK IT UP.

No matter how much good they may do, I don't donate to any organization that encourages that kind of pressure. They just hand the money out to a whole bunch of other organizations anyway; find one you like and donate directly to them.

I work for a community center that gets a chunk of their operating budget from United Way and somehow that means we HAVE to all donate to them. And do it via payroll deduction (just found that little gem out). So i'm signing up for the minimum, 25ยข per paycheck, or $6.50 BUT (because I'm evil and annoyed) I'm not writing in for any of my coffee breaks whenever I can get away with and so I'll get paid for my 15 minute breaks.

Yay! Fight Teh Man! Power to the People! Truth, Justice, Freedom, Reasonably Priced Love, and a Hardboiled Egg!

...sorry. A little too caffeinated now.

There is no such thing as too much caffeine.

[identity profile] jadesfire2808.livejournal.com 2007-09-19 04:15 pm (UTC)(link)
That is a worryingly cunning plan.

[livejournal.com profile] donutsweeper, I could send you an English penny if it would help...

MWAHAHAHAHA! *cough* Er. Sorry. Got a little evil stuck in my throat there.
