(no subject)

I finally bite the bullet and quit freaking out over my Yuletide story and go to post it at AO3... only to find AO3 is down for maintenance. *grrrrr*

Aw, boo! I'm sorry. :( I have wanted to start using AO3, but I think I've had really bad luck. Seems like every time I try, it's either down or unusable.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2010-12-16 04:01 am (UTC)(link)
AO3 doesn't like me. Even when there isn't Yuletide crazies going on I find it hard to load stuff up to and it'll be very slow to load pages of things I want to read. I like the idea behind it, but haven't had much luck with using it.

It looks to be OK now, it just let me in, anyway.

I just got it to work again a minute ago. I must have hit it at the wrong time.

(isn't it ridiculously early for you now?)

[identity profile] amythest-n-ice.livejournal.com 2010-12-16 04:26 am (UTC)(link)
It's half four in the morning, I work permanant nights (less irksome people getting underfoot, especially at this time of year).

I think AO3 put a warning up, waaaay back before it started that people may have trouble getting in from time to time during Yuletide, they're using this year as a testing ground to figure out better ways to handle the load or some such.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2010-12-16 04:36 am (UTC)(link)
Ah, the night shift. My husband worked that for a while back when jobs were scarce, he got off at 2am if I remember correctly. In a lot of ways it was nice though- he was home during the day and the roads were empty when commuting and there wasn't anyone bugging him at work with useless crap

That makes a lot of sense about AO3 and Yuletide. I bet the 19th and 20th are going to be interesting.

[identity profile] amythest-n-ice.livejournal.com 2010-12-16 04:39 am (UTC)(link)
Oh yeah, I like coming in after all the management have buggered off, and leaving before they roll in, bliss!

19th and 20th will probably be 'duck and cover and pray you don't want to read anything' day, lol.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2010-12-16 04:42 am (UTC)(link)
I feel bad for people who aren't participating in Yuletide for that reason. I bet it'll be dodgy on the 25th too, if I remember right it crashed repeatedly then when everyone was trying to access their gifts

[identity profile] amythest-n-ice.livejournal.com 2010-12-16 04:44 am (UTC)(link)
I think I'll find myself something else to read those days *grabs drive with Dr. Who books on and hugs protectively*.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2010-12-16 04:46 am (UTC)(link)
ooh, now there's a good idea. I'm reading them out of order, and just finished my first and really liked it.

[identity profile] amythest-n-ice.livejournal.com 2010-12-16 05:06 am (UTC)(link)
I'm busy trying to pick out the 8th Doctor ones I can remember the titles of at the moment, and then sorting them into Doctor appropriate folders so I know who is Who (pun may or may not be intended).

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2010-12-16 05:09 am (UTC)(link)
Ah, the sensible approach. I'm doing the random hmmm, what sounds weirdest? way of picking things to read

[identity profile] amythest-n-ice.livejournal.com 2010-12-16 05:19 am (UTC)(link)
I'm a huge 8/Fitz fan though, and after him will be any I can find with Adric (and I believe I may have spotted one at least), followed by any I can find with Turlough, after that it will be the random (and can you guess which companions I like best, lol). If you want weird, go for Infinity Race, I've never known a companion to get killed so many times in ONE book (and not even Captain Jack!).

I haven't gotten into Eight yet, I'm trying though- I listened to a bit of Eight and Charley and Fitz is next on my list to delve into.

I'm a huge Turlough fan though, and Jamie. In general I've found the male companions are so much more interesting

[identity profile] amythest-n-ice.livejournal.com 2010-12-16 05:23 am (UTC)(link)
I think it isn't so much the male companions who are interesting, as their occasionally fairly obvious crushes on a certain Time Lord, so much funnier than the girls crushes.

excellent point. There's less chance of damsel-in-distress storylines too, which has never been a favorite of mine

[identity profile] amythest-n-ice.livejournal.com 2010-12-16 05:26 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, I hear you! *grrrRosegrrr*

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2010-12-16 05:27 am (UTC)(link)
Although, Turlough was chained up a lot, come to think of it...

[identity profile] amythest-n-ice.livejournal.com 2010-12-16 05:28 am (UTC)(link)
kinky!

Sorry, that was the fault of people like me - there was an error that stopped us from uploading our fic, so they had to take it down to put in a fix. Hope you got yours uploaded safely now.

I got it to work eventually. Now I just have to wait and worry if they like it or not :)
