meme
I've being seeing this meme going around my flist and figured I'd give it a go as I'm trying to get back into the fanfic mindset:
I currently have 90 works posted on AO3. Choose a random number - no peeking! - between 1 (most recently posted/updated) and 90, and I will tell you three random things about that story.
AO3 doesn't have the majority of my fic, my LJ predates it by quite a bit and not only I did not move a lot of my existing stuff over, I do not crosspost most of my shorter things (drabbles, double drabbles and the like) there either, but there's a bunch of stuff, so have at it!

Someone already asked for 13, would you like to pick another number?

That's an NCIS:LA Yuletide fic, [Bad username or site: http://archiveofourown.org/works/290790 @ livejournal.com], while I wrote as a pinch hit. I've given up on NCIS:LA as a show since then, but I still do like the characters and characterizations I wrote here. G is one of those tough guys, but hiding deep insecurities and wounds, not unlike a lot of characters that tend to wind up as my favorites in fandoms, and was so excited when I saw the request about him on the pinch hit list.
random factoids: I rewatched a lot of episodes for this fic and even thought it was only just over 2k I managed to sneak in references to 5 different episodes.
I used a real life burger place/bar for the place they go for burgers in the fic, but totally made up the specials they order. Messing about with what countries' flags might be used to refer to what had been an American (red, white and blue) minus the tomato (red) was really, really fun.
I'm still really happy with both the pacing and dialog in this fic, which is rare for me. :)

And yet, this little detour, perhaps not totally necessary to the story, really nailed the entire thing for me: Kay arrived then, her tray brimming with their food, extra napkins, ketchup, hot sauce, and beers. G. offered her a shy smile while Sam thanked her. The next few moments were occupied by rearranging the table to their liking, the condiments being used and then pushed up against the wall, napkins set aside for later, and beers moved away from the edge.
I'm not sure why. It just covers so much about men in general, American life and food, these two guys in particular, and the emotional backdrop of the story. I liked it a lot.
