“We shouldn’t have let him do it, Owen. We could have found another way.”
“Don’t be stupid, Ianto. Jack’s plan worked, didn’t it? The Trolaxian beast is dead.”
“But so is Jack!”
“Well, lucky for him it’s not permanent, eh?”
“Owen!”
“Relax, he’ll be fine. Just help me get these talons out of his chest.”
“We can’t keep expecting him to do this! How many times has he died for us? How can we keep letting him?”
“Well, it’s not like we’ll be able to get him to stop any time soon. It’s his job. He saves the Earth. He protects us. That’s what he does. It’s who he is.”
“It’s not who he is, it’s who he thinks he has to be.”
“Same difference.”
“No, it’s not. He shouldn’t have to throw himself in front of a hail of bullets without a moment’s hesitation in order to protect people, to protect us. He never even tried to find another way this time.”
“Talons. Not bullets.”
“The result’s the same.”
“Yeah, I guess it is.”
“But, we’re a team. We can save the world together. We can protect each other. We should. How do we get him to understand he doesn’t have to die to be a hero?”
“I don’t know if we can.”
“But we should try, we have to try.”
“Yeah, you’re probably right. But before you can lecture him, he’s gotta be alive so are you going to help me get this talon out his chest or not?”
“I’ll get the crowbar."
