Snowflake, Day 2

Fandom Snowflake Challenge banner 2018

Day 2

In your own space, share a favorite memory about fandom: the first time you got into fandom, the last time a fanwork touched your heart, crazy times with fellow fans (whether on-line or off-line), a lovely comment you’ve received or have left for someone. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

Hmm, I took a circuitous root through fandom before really getting into the fanfic side of things. The early days of Torchwood (from S1s airings through CoE) will always hold a certain place in my heart- I had the most amazing flist then, all interconnected, friendly and supportive and I had all these *ideas* and wrote so much without needing prompts/exchanges to do so. Then the canon imploded and ate itself and nearly all of those people drifted away :(

More recently (as in, this past week) my favorite moment was waiting for the Yuletide collection to open so Settiai could see what I wrote for them. I know a little about requesting the same thing for yuletide over and over despite being fairly certain you'll never get it and I had all my fingers crossed that the Peacemakers story I wrote for them would be everything they'd being hoping for and I was right. Their resulting comments (plural!) have not stopped making me smile.

The early days of Torchwood fandom were AMAZING. So much creativity going on, so much discussion, and so many friendships that came out of it. :-)

Aww, I like that your fandom memory was about how you made someone else's day. <3

I think one of the things that made me go cold on fandom was how things petered out - Torchwood and SGA for me, really - as well as a few other odds and ends. I'm hoping to post more regularly here, though, because as you say, the point was the people as much as the fandom, and I miss everyone. It won't be the crazy, interconnected thing it was, but I think I'd like to see if we can build something up again, maybe more sustainable this time, and more based on people than fandoms /ramble

Your Yuletide output was so amazing, and that's fab that it went down so well \o/
