Thanks to that Chinese links post I finally got my act together and created a masterpost of all the useful links resource posts. There's now 1200 ish links or so within those 11 posts. It's kind of hilarious how while there's lots of links about a zillion different things, I can still sort of see my fannish progression in it. There's Revolutionary War links due to Sleep Hollow, American Old West thanks to Magnificent Seven (TV) and Peacemakers; plenty of Victorian/Edwardian things due to ACD Sherlock Holmes, Houdini & Doyle, and Murdoch Mysteries; '20s-'40s NYC + US Army WWII due to Captain America, Cold War due to Man From U.N.C.L.E; so many modern links on so many topic resulting from various other fandoms like SGA, NCIS, Losers, Sherlock, etc and now the entire post of Chinese history and whatnot links due to Untamed, NIF, etc....
Some of the posts have gotten a little messy since they grew so much since I first started collecting/organizing the links (I think there was about 350 links originally?) but... sigh. No real idea how to rejigger them into something better or clearer/cleaner. I also should do a click through to try to weed out dead links, it's been about a year since I've done that and I'm sure there's at least a few. I've backed up a bunch on the wayback machine just in case (and I should probably back up more) so sometimes I'm able to just swap out non-working links without a problem. A project for when it's warmer and my internet is behaving better maybe.
It's two weeks to chocolatebox opens and I've spent a lot of time perusing the prompts and going... yep, those are prompts. No idea when my writing brain will come back from the war but I'd like it to be soonish please. I am out of the loop with popular fandoms again, which isn't helping. For years I'd be guaranteed to find something in MCU or some other fandom that had a ton of prompts but that hasn't been the case for years. There are some fandoms I know, but they seem to be requested by the same people and I've written their prompts already. If I was a pwp writer life would be so much easier.
Last year somehow I wrote 3 things not for an exchange and I'd LOVE to write more outside of the exchange circuit but, to be fair, the second was a sequel/continuation to the first which was a response to a prompt I saw on tumblr so really it's not like I'm coming up with my own fic ideas right and left.
hurtcomfortex will open for noms in a week or two I think. I've done it every year so far, I'll need to nom stuff so I can think about signing up again.
My DMBJ watch stalled partially into TLT2 when 2.5 started coming out and
I recently watched (and liked but not in a super fannish way) The Yin-Yang Master: Dream of Eternity. I got about a quarter of the way through Crossfire which was decent enough but I kind of got distracted and wandered away. If I'm not going back to that or DMBJ I should start something new. Mydramalist is great for keeping track of a to-watch list but I wish there was a way to keep notes on it because I tend to see someone talking about something and save it to my watchlist and then later I'm looking at the list going "I must have put these zillion things here for reason but...." If anyone is enjoying something that a)isn't seriously long (less than 50 episodes or so if not much shorter) and b)doesn't have too many logical foibles and c) isn't depressing tell me about it and why you like it, help me pick something new to watch.
Anyway, have 2 weeks of
recthething recs. 3 mdzs/untamed fics and tumblr art for Xena, Merlin, M*A*S*H, Daredevil, ST:TOS, ST:TNG and a tribute to Carrie Fisher and Betty White:
A Study in Fluff by WeaverOfTheNight (29k)
Summary Snippet: Or, Lan Wangji gets a call for help from the owner of a sick ghost rabbit, helps the bunny get well, and falls in love with the owner along the way. (utterly adorable modern-with-cultivation AU)
your love, unmoved by ravenditefairylights, TheOtherAsianKid (82k, MXTX bigbang fic)
Summary: Lan Wangi's life is very simple, and because of that it's also very predictable. He's a respected cultivator in his thirties, with a son and a class of Lan disciples to teach. And then he becomes Lan Wangji, a respected cultivator in his thirties, with a son, a class of Lan disciples to teach and a fake husband who thinks he doesn't remember their wedding because of the accident, and Lan Wangji doesn't quite know how to tell him that there was no wedding at all.
Wei Ying is not predictable. Wei Ying is the farthest thing from predictable; which is only confirmed when it turns out that he's been doing some lying of his own. In Lan Wangji's opinion though, neither that nor the conspiracy Wei Ying is trying to uncover matter as much as how his eyes crinkle at the corners when he laughs. (Really great modern with cultivation AU with a great twist)
A Thousand Things by tickertape (108k)
Summary: Wei Ying has made a fine life for himself. He’s got his jiejies and his talismans; he doesn’t need anyone’s charity. But spending a whole year in Gusu? That’s hard to turn down. (a non-Jiang sect WWX AU fic, also non-war AU. Well done)
Xena Warrior Princess- xena (wow, just wow)
2 Merlin - Gwaine (gorgeous) and Merlin (lovely and melancholic)
M*A*S*H - Margaret Houlihan (love her smile!)
Daredevil - I'm a really good lawyer (gorgeous Matt Murdock)
ST:TOS - To Boldly Go - (Amazing stained glass effect art of the cast plus the Enterprise)
ST:TNG - Beverly and Deanna (oh my yes good)
not quite fandom, but kind of - Our Blessed Rebel Queen: Carrie Fisher and Our Lady of Grateful Camaraderie: Betty White

Click for DMBJ babble
I figured I should wait and then watch it all in one go but I haven't gotten back to it. I love DMBJ (Daomu Biji aka The Lost Tomb aka The Grave Robber Chronicles) but even though I've watched over 100 episodes of it that still leaves over 150 episodes and several movies and many books and and and sigh. And it's such a frankenmishmash fandom it can be hard to be in the fandom for one of the canons without being in all of it. I want to watch/read more and I'm trying to psych myself up for it but as much as I love Ultimate Note and Reboot (especially reboot) the nonsensicalness and meandering to nowhere plots so prevalent in DMBJ needs a certain mindset and I'm not sure I'm in that kind of place now.I recently watched (and liked but not in a super fannish way) The Yin-Yang Master: Dream of Eternity. While my fandoms have never been huge, I have the same thing in that I used to be able to find lots of things to write for in exchanges and that's just not true anymore. The last couple I had to switch offers to make sure I'd be able to match to someone.
As to your MDL list, I remember you responding to some of my posts at
ETA: Ancient Detective, Maiden Holmes, The Imperial Coroner and The Silent Criminal would all fit your wishlist.

It actually has several twists and is stuffed full of a wide range of potential ships and interesting characters you want to root for! The twist at the end -- I hate spoilers -- is setting up for the second season we're supposed to get.
People do die in AD and some bad things happen to good people and there are sad bits but it's all at the level you'd normally expect from what, at heart, is a mystery.
I'm trying to think... I'm pretty sure I haven't made a promo post for anything with a depressing/horrible ending at
If you're looking for something lighter, Maiden Holmes might be a good choice and The Silent Criminal is extremely silly and is only 13 x 35 minute episodes if you're looking for something very short.

I have a lot of mates into Guardian but I haven't watched it because I've heard it had a depressing ending. Covid seems to have worn down my ability to knowingly deal with that type of thing.

I'm a Person of Interest fan, so it's not like I can't deal with a bad ending but it made sense in terms of the canon.
