I can remember to post, really I can....

Random stuff from the last month:

It's Yuletide nomination time! Go make some noms if you think you might be interested in participating this year. After nomming, I wrote up a promo for 吸血鬼鬼盲盒 | The Vampires (which I requested last year and will be requesting again this year) for the Yuletide Fandom Promo Post:
Title:吸血鬼鬼盲盒 | The Vampires (TV)

Media: 8 episode Chinese webdrama

Approx length: 40 minutes

Where to find it: Official bilibili channel or with English subs here (this version combines all eight episodes including the 'previously on' bits and has been slightly censored, the uncensored episodes with English subs can be watched here.)

What is it, in summary?: Jiang Tianyue's sleepwalking kept bringing her to an abandoned ship. She and her friend, Xiaoling, a Mount Wuling Sect disciple, decide to check it out but end up triggering a failsafe ward which traps them there overnight. They soon discover the ship isn't as abandoned as it first seemed and that they might not be prepared for what they find. (It's vampires, the title gives it away, they find vampires. Sexy, lesbian vampires.)

What do you love about it?: This takes place in a modern world with food delivery and smart phones whatnot but also not, since vampire-ish foods like lemon ginger blood tea and blood layer cake can be delivered. There's just a ton of worldbuilding hinted to with the various bits we see of both Xiaoling's skills and the vampires' stories. It's fascinating.

What sort of things are you likely to request for it?: General worldbuilding, more about Xiaoling and being a cultivator in this world, the life of the vampires, an explanation of the ending/continuation of the story, etc.

Are there sections of canon (rather than the whole canon) that can be consumed by themselves to fulfil your requests, or that showcase particular characters and relationships?: Not really, but the whole thing is only 40ish minutes long.

Content warnings (ie, rape, incest, racism, gore/violence): The ship is haunted and there are some jumpscares with the ghosts and also some illusions of violence. The deaths that led to the women becoming vampires are referenced and have slight flashbacks to/remembrances of them.

I also nominated All Souls (the haunted hospital show I've requested the last four years), Nightmare Cafe (haunted-ish diner/cafe anthology show from the 90s) and Time Raiders (the steampunk AU DMBJ movie).

I need to decide if I'm going to try to write up a promo for All Souls again or not. I *think* I've written up one before, but I'm not sure. I'm also wondering if I should promo Nightmare Cafe, which is newly nommed by me this year, both only lasted 6 episodes and I'm pretty sure no one knows either. But the promo post encourages legal links only and they both only exist now thanks to youtube uploads. Also, both fit under that "is this good? ... wellllll, that depends on your definition of 'good' but I still like it" kind of nebulous category. So, I'm not sure I want to promo them. The Vampires sort of fits under that category as well, but it's only 40 minutes long and has enough other things going for it, so I thought there might be some interest.

I finished the zig-zag afghan I was working on:

It wound up being about 4 feet (48") by 29" and I'm not sure what I'm going to do with it, I had been kind of thinking I'd give it to my aunt but she doesn't like it.

Have a month or so of [community profile] recthething recs (MDZS/Untamed fic and tumblr art for that, Greek Myths, Guardian, The Princess Bride and X-Files):
the song remains the same by la_muerta (4.5k)
Summary: Someone has to leave first. This is a very old story, and there is no other version of this story. But maybe the end of one story is just the beginning of another one. Wei Wuxian dies a second time, this time for good. Lan Wangji retreats to the cave under the Cold Spring to grieve and unintentionally seals himself for a thousand years. He wakes to a world of electric lights, internet memes, and bewildering technology - but some things remain the same. (this older fic from 2020 is just lovely and lyrical)

Lay my body down by tawaen (48k)
Summary: One of the fragments of Wei Wuxian's soul, splintered during the first siege of the Burial Mounds, uses the energy released by the Yin Tiger Tally and flees backwards through time to another moment where Wei Wuxian was close to death – after the fall of Lotus Pier, at the hands of Jiang Wanyin. Knowing how his first life will end, Wei Wuxian decides to hide his survival, and leave the cultivation world behind. (recently finished canon divergent fic where WWX leaves during the night after Jiang Cheng's attack post-Lotus Pier's fall and many things change as a result. Note- not Jiang Cheng friendly)

Faire thee well by Scrippio (77.6k)
Summary: In which Wei Ying does magic tricks, Lan Zhan sells flower crowns, and Mingjue is a blacksmith, because the whole gang works at the Renaissance Faire and no one quite knows how to function. (delightful modern Renfair AU)

The Hiring Process by loosingletters. (2k)
Summary: Lan Wangji is about to have the most important job interview of his life. The cultivators of Yiling Jiang want to know why a Sect Heir wants to work for their hastily thrown-together office in their disaster city. Wei Wuxian is unaware he’s about to become part of the greatest office romance ever to grace the world. (short-almost only a glimpse of-an interesting modern-with-cultivation AU)

missing you (but not anymore) by goodnyte (2.5k)
Summary: The position of Chief Cultivator eats at Lan Wangji worse than any other role or duty he's performed in his life. That he does it while separated from someone he loves and who he'd just gotten back? It borders on cruelty. (short but sweet post-canon h/c fic)

a grave is all too weak a thing by Reverie (cl410) (3k)
Summary: Wei Wuxian wasn’t sure what was worse– having his soul hijacked by a very forbidden, very dangerous Sacrificial Summoning array, or the fact that this Mo Xuanyu person had managed to fuck up the array in ways Wei Wuxian couldn’t even begin to comprehend.

Jiang Yanli woke with an ache in her chest like her heart had been gouged out with a rusty spoon.

Jin Zixuan’s first thought when he opened his eyes to the sky above Qiongqi Pass was that his mediation skills clearly needed some work.

Wen Qing woke with vengeance blazing through her veins, the flames fanned higher with every beat of her resurrected heart. (fascinating short canon-divergent AU, I could easily have read another 10x more of this to see where it might have gone)

Knit Witted Wei Ying by TriviasFolly (17k)
Summary Snippet: Knitting and Wei Ying had a love hate relationship. He loved the constant motion, the sounds of the needles brushing against each other, the way a particularly soft yarn slid through his fingers. The way that he could combine two stitches to create thousands of different patterns and outcomes, just like his beloved binary code. But, unlike his computer programing, knitting had a bad reputation. Well, not exactly bad but a gendered reputation. It wasn't true, but it prevent Wei Ying from being unable to separate the idea of knitting from little old ladies. (adorable no cultivation modern AU, although WWX is completely wrong here, it's knitting that's witchcraft, not crochet :D)

tumblr art:
Greek Myths (retold as chickens) - part one and part two (I think Egg-amemnon is my favorite, tied closely by Diom-egg-es)
Guardian - Sometimes, Da Qing thinks he can nearly recall the hands that fastened the collar around his neck. (oh my heart)
MDZS/The Untamed
- I absolutely love just how many time-travel fix-it fics there are in this fandom (hilarious comic)
- Inquiry (Lan Wangji animation, really neat)
- Lan Zhan I have something to tell you (comic redo of the Guanyin Temple JGY threatening WWX's life scene with a great 'twist')
The Princess Bride - as you wish (the grandfather and grandson, very sweet)
X-Files - im watching x files again (Mulder and Scully, love this)

Love is more than word is another historical chinese bl novel that had a tv adaptation, although it only covered part of the novel - stopping about 3/4 of the way through.
It's an early one, made in 2016 - so even before Guardian or Untamed was released, so it oftens gets missed.

The novel only has a partial translation, with the last bit only being available as MTL.

It's about Tao Mo, who has just taken up the position of a rural county magistrate, with the idea of finally being able to make his late father proud of him. The only problem is he can't actually read and bought the position using the last of his family money. He is very honest and earnest about it.

The love interest is Gu She, a successful laywer, who everyone seems to think he's cold and aloof, but that they still want to try to suck up to because of his connections. Once he's realised that Tao Mo isn't just some rich guy who's bought a position for fun and that he can't read, he start to teach him.

The adaptation end rather abruptly which might put people off, but the novel is a happy ending.
