Resource links, recs and ramble
For anyone who uses my Research Links posts, I just finished going through them all and weeding out/replacing dead links and adding in a ton of new links. I am *very* glad that I saved stuff to the wayback machine so frequently and was able to grab so many backup links there. Anything that requires an account to be read (mostly a few tumblr blogs) has been noted as well, but I tried to find alternate links so everything will be accessible to everyone. As always, if anyone finds a dead link, or a great resource they think should be linked, just let me know.
There's a LOT of new things and some stuff has been shuffled around, particularly on the Random and History posts (which are unfortunately still somewhat unwieldy due to their size), but hopefully they're a bit easier to find things on now.
Some of the new stuff isn't horribly fandom related, but still very neat: If you're interested in something to listen to now there's not only the two world radio links but also three different sites that have vintage music (mostly pre-1930s) and also several with radio programs from the 30s-50s (The Shadow, War of the Worlds, etc). And just tons of dime/pulp novels, penny dreadfuls, scifi and detective magazines to read as well. (All of which can be found in the history post.) There's also some links for safely sailing the high seas safely on the randomness post if you're looking to read/listen/watch something else.
There's more than 1900 links now (which I think is more than triple than the amount when I first compiled them in 2018). I may have a research dive problem.
Craft-wise, I finished another hat (using a different pattern), I have some wool to use up so I might make a few more and then figure out where the drop off is for the Hats for the Homeless org. I've also started an oven mitt. Not a flashy craft, but a useful one and I already had the cotton in my stash.
And here's two weeks of
recthething recs:
Troubled by the Emptiness by DecemberCamie (27k)
Summary: Ten years after the end of the Sunshot Campaign, a Night Hunt leaves Lan Wangji depleted of spiritual energy and Lan Xichen heavily injured. The townsfolk in Yiling advise Lan Wangji to seek help from the Wei Sect however there is a problem with that. Lan Wangji has never heard of the Wei Sect before. He doesn’t know of a single cultivator who bears the name. And yet there is something hauntingly familiar about Sect Leader Wei Wuxian, something that makes Lan Wangji reconsider everything he’s known of his own past and everything he wants for his future. (This canon divergent AU ends a bit abruptly but is a great read)
The Fatalist Circuitry of Veins by MxEmerald (5k)
Summary: Luo Qingyang holds her values behind her teeth, and she dares anyone to take them from her. (Mian Mian joins the Wens. It does not fix everything.) (interesting canon divergent AU where Mian Mian seeks out WWX and the Wens after renouncing her Sect affiliation.)
The Shade of Old Trees Kryal (363k)
Summary: They called the man in the ice Yiling Laozu, after a folk hero associated with the town in the foothills of the mountains where he was found. No one expected him to be alive! (After following this story as it updated each week for close to 6 months, it's finally finished and I'm thrilled to rec it. It's an incredibly well thought out story of what would happen if the frozen body a bunch of modern day scientists had planned to thaw and study turned out to be alive. WWX's history in this is slightly different than canon's (as many of the characters like Wen Qing and LWJ are modern day characters rather then ones from the past) and the changes made to his past to fit that are interesting and sensible. And the various reactions from everyone in the present works very well too. Absolutely an excellent read and while quite long, the ao3 word count is deceptive since often detailed author's notes are included in each chapter since they were too long for the end notes)
