On Febrrrruary and More

Candyhearts exchange (the chocolatebox replacement) opened a few days ago, lots of good things in the collection- go check them out!

Also, there's still a few days left for nominations for the hurt/comfort exchange! The post with links to both the tagset and nomination guidelines is here.

It's been stupidly cold here. With windchill yesterday's low was -29f and high -4f (-18 and -2f without) and while today is "warmer" the high is still only supposed to be 2 before windchill and I don't consider that much better. It's February, we're not supposed to be getting January weather in February and I do not like it.

I screwed up my most recent craft project somehow. I was making another oven mitt and realized when it was more than 3/4 of the way done that somehow it was *way* too small (width-wise. It fit me, I'd been checking that, but while I have long fingers so match the others in the house's handsize that way, their palms are much wider and somehow even following the exact same pattern it was a good half inch to full inch less wide and wouldn't fit them comfortably. I had to frog the whole thing. :( Two weeks' work down the tube.

My attempts to complete more on my MDL to-watch list are failing. I got through a bunch more of Strange Tales of Jiang Cheng (it's 52 shortish (15 min or so) episodes but then kept pausing and wandering away. I'm about 80/85% of the way through but have hit that 'everything looks awful/is going terribly for our heroes' portion of the story that's so common with dramas these days and I normally am not a fan of it but when I was struggling to get through the already contrived roadblocks... sigh. The three main characters are gorgeous and good actors (especially The Spirealm's Xia Zhiguang) but I'm giving up on it again for now.

I decided to move the Kdrama "When the Phone Rings" to the dropped list after failing to even remotely care about the characters on a third watch attempt and moved the cdrama "Lies Never Lie" (which starred Conjuring Curse's Pangzi, Wang Bowen) to on-hold (it wasn't terrible but it was boring with meh characters and I don't know what the people claiming it's a f/f version of Under the Skin are smoking).

A bunch of people in one of my discords were screaming about The Embers so I gave it a try and flew through all the episodes currently available in 3 days (20 out of the eventual 28). It has some familiar faces (supporting cast includes 2 NIF actors - Consort Jing and General Lie (Xiao Jingyuan's second in command) and so far, obviously, I am loving it. No clue how it will end though, it hasn't really followed any expected tropes so not going to rec it quite yet since more than one thing I've love has totally fumbled the finale. Also, as a note, some of the cases are *brutal* so that's something to keep in mind. (I've been watching it here).

And, because I am terrible at remember to post them here, have several weeks of [community profile] recthething recs (MDZS/Untamed fic and tumblr art recs for due south, guardian, leverage, mdzs, merlin, and spn):

warming up by ShippersList (2.5k, locked to archive)
Summary: It takes a cold winter for Lan Qiren to finally thaw to Wei Wuxian. (Pun intended.) (sweet LQR and WWX moments)

By Any Other Name by muchlessvermillion (2k)
Summary Snippet: “Why do you call him that?” Nie Huiasang asked, seemingly out of nowhere.
“Who?” Jiang Cheng asked. “And also what?”
“Wei-xiong,” Nie Huiasang clarified, like this made perfect sense. “You call him Wei Wuxian.” (interesting Cloud Recessess Study era fic about names and their power and implications)

due South
- Ray gets distracted by the brown uniform. (to be fair, the brown uniform is *very* distracting :D)

Guardian
- Sunny afternoons at the SID (Aka Da Qing really likes having Shen Wei around) (chin scratches! so cute)

Leverage
- the rundown job aka the episode that just kept on giving (absolutely incredible ot3)

MDZS/The Untamed
- Fairy transportation (a hilarious way to transport a dog via sword)

Merlin
- Quick sketch of Merlin in Disney's Sword in The Stone style! (Hilarious!!)

Supernatural
- the one thing i want | it's something i know i can't have (so simple, so gorgeous)

Thanks for the art recs, especially the Da Qing one and the dog one! <3

Ack, that's so cold!

I can see where the comparisons came from (especially with the investigating a mentor's murder subplot), but I definitely think The Evidence Tells is much closer to a f/f Under the Skin (and more engaging) than Lies Never Lie.

It could also be that UtS had just finished and people saw there was a new Detective plus Non-Police Expert working together show and decided that was close enough to be considered UtS-like.

That's probably the case, tbh (and I'm probably a bit guilty of that too with my comparison).

I hope you enjoy The Evidence Tells if you check it out! I've got a mostly unspoilerly post about it here.

I'm so sorry about your oven mitt!

And thanks for the recs, as usual!
