I hang my head in shame

Today was National Donut Day in America. National Donut Day.  A day to celebrate donuts.  70th year of celebrating it....

And I had no idea.  None.  Whatsoever.  I'm so ashamed.

I hereby declare that tomorrow is also National Donut Day. As Phoenix64 pointed out, the Brits get an entire week. We should too!

I like the way you two think!!! that sounds like an excellent idea!

[identity profile] phoenix64.livejournal.com 2008-06-07 07:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Aye! Why should they get a week when we only get a day, when donuts are American in the first place?!

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-06-07 09:05 pm (UTC)(link)
that is entirely unfair *pouts*

At least you found out before the day was over.

But, sadly, after all the stores are closed. I think a trip to the bakery is in order for tomorrow!

I'm going to tell you what my mother told me when I asked her why, if there was a Mother's Day and Father's Day, there wasn't a Children's Day. She said (predictably) that every day was Children's Day. With you, every day is Donut Day, so...you don't need to celebrate on the day. You celebrate the glory of donuts every day. *nods*

*sniffles quietly*

*looks up*

*smiles*

This is hilarious, because I had this EXACT conversation with my parents when I was a kid, and now I've had it with my own kids.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-06-07 03:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Mine haven't brought it up, I have this secret desire to be evil and say "Oh, it was (three weeks ago) did you miss it somehow?"

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_medley_/ 2008-06-07 11:58 pm (UTC)(link)
LOL! Did your mom say, "Do you WANT a spanking?" Denise and I used to talk about how dumb that was, and then one day she called me and said, "Guess what just came out of my mouth?" *g*

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-06-08 12:00 am (UTC)(link)
*nods* 'tis a scary thing when you realize you are channeling your parent

[identity profile] travels-in-time.livejournal.com 2008-06-08 02:45 am (UTC)(link)
Yes! My brother and I used to laugh about that, and then when you have kids you realize that this question makes perfect sense, because that is the ONLY conceivable explanation for their behavior--they must really, really WANT a spanking!

[identity profile] mad-jaks.livejournal.com 2008-06-07 06:37 am (UTC)(link)
And I missed you missing it *sends donut*

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-06-07 03:20 pm (UTC)(link)
*munches* The kids and I went out on a donut run (well, walk) this morning. Donuts+ exercise. I figured the exercise was as good a penance as any for being so foolish

Middle son and I toddled into the nearest big Tesco supermarket earlier today to fetch food and found they've started selling Krispy Kreme. He was so excited *G*

Smart, smart boy you have there

[identity profile] smithy161.livejournal.com 2008-06-07 08:34 am (UTC)(link)
You must now appease the gods of doughnuts before they come after you!

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-06-07 03:21 pm (UTC)(link)
*looks around nervously* We went and got donuts first thing this morning, do you think that'll work?

[identity profile] chatona.livejournal.com 2008-06-07 09:43 am (UTC)(link)
... There's a day to celebrate donuts!

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-06-07 03:21 pm (UTC)(link)
There is! Isn't that awesome?

Reminds me that I forgot that my birthday was both National Towel Day (H2G2) and Lilac Day (Discworld). Next year I'm going to get a lilac towel to take into work, after all I'm a hoopy frood who always knows where my towel is...

Oh and Happy Donut Days! I don't have a donut icon, but this is my equivalent. *g*

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-06-07 03:28 pm (UTC)(link)
oooh a lilac towel (or a towel with lilac designs on it) that would work!
