Failed Tactics

Title: Failed Tactics
Pairing/Warning/Rating: Doctor Who fandom, no spoilers, rated G
Word Count: 100
Summary: The Brigadier knows all of Jack's tricks.

Sergeant Benton knocked forcefully before entering.

"Yes, yes." The Brigadier returned Benton's salute. "What is it?"

"A situation has come up, sir."

"What sort of situation?" the Brigadier asked carefully.

"It's Captain Harkness."

"What's the man done this time?"

Benton stiffened, avoiding the Brigadier's eyes before blandly stating, "He's dead, sir."

"Oh, is that all?" The relief was evident in his eyes. "I was concerned he was flirting with an ambassador again."

"But..."

"Just prop him in a chair in the back, he knows better than to think he can avoid this meeting that easily."

Ha! Fantastic! That's given me a good chortle! :-)

Nice to hear from you, too!

Typo: blandly stating, "he's dead, sir." - need a capital H on he's. :-)

Ohh, thanks for the catch *grumbles about stupid English rules*

:) Playing dead seems like a brilliant idea sometimes

I love it - it's a brilliant idea, and so very, very Jack. :-)

He's a sneaky one, our Captain!

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2008-07-28 02:42 pm (UTC)(link)
That last line killed. Wait...

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-07-28 02:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Jack would try anything to get out of boring meetings, wouldn't he?

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-07-28 02:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Too bad the Brig and others know him so well... otherwise it just might have worked!

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2008-07-28 02:52 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't think Jack fools many people, anymore. Reminds me of someone I know...

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-07-28 03:13 pm (UTC)(link)
no idea what you mean there....

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2008-07-28 07:40 pm (UTC)(link)
You should know by now I only respond to bribery.

*offers tower o' donuts*

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2008-07-28 08:03 pm (UTC)(link)
I accept *grabs a stack*.

Bwah! This is wonderful. I love this

Benton stiffened, avoiding the Brigadier's eyes before blandly stating, "He's dead, sir."

because it's *so* Benton, I can totally see him reporting that way.

And the Brig complaining about Jack flirting with ambassadors, trying to miss a meeting... perfect. ::bookmarks::

(And it's an unexpected treat to see you here!)

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-07-28 06:46 pm (UTC)(link)
I always assumed UNIT and Torchwood would have to have dealt with each other quite a bit, I can't imagine the Brig was too impressed with Jack

(I'm sneaking on, not really supposed to be here but sanity insisted!)

You'd think so. I imagine jurisdiction was sometimes an interesting discussion!

I can see the Brig thinking of Jack as a stone in his shoe a lot of the time - but a quite useful stone, so maybe he eventually gave him some grudging respect.

[identity profile] phoenix64.livejournal.com 2008-07-28 05:26 pm (UTC)(link)
BWA! I can so see Jack trying that, at least once.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-07-28 06:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Unfortunately it didn't work, or else it's a tactic he'd keep doing, right? :)

[identity profile] aeron-lanart.livejournal.com 2008-07-29 10:18 am (UTC)(link)
I love you, you made me laugh!
How Jack. And how very Brig too... Never flustered by anything including a guy who turns up dead for meetings!

I didn't have a good day yesterday so making me laugh is a very good thing.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-07-29 01:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Yay! Glad I could make you laugh! :)
