The Stakeout

Title: The Stakeout
Pairing/Warning/Rating: NCIS fandom, vague Gibbs/DiNozzo, rated G
Word Count: 200
Summary:  Gibbs takes advantage of an opportunity to study DiNozzo.
Author's Note:  Written for the [profile] ncisdrabble100 challenge: profile

The car was cold, but Gibbs couldn’t turn on the heater without giving away their position and ruining the stakeout.  Not there had been much to see, the house was as empty now as it had been when he and Tony relieved McGee and Ziva six hours ago.

After awhile Gibbs ordered Tony to grab some shut eye, claiming it was a defensive measure.  “You’re a menace when you’ve got nothing to do, DiNozzo,” he’d said.  “Shut up and get some sleep.”  Tony had protested, but eventually capitulated under the agreement that he’d be woken in an hour so Gibbs could rest himself.

Gibbs had no intention of doing that; he had enough coffee to see him through to dawn, but he wasn’t about to admit it to Tony.  He welcomed the chance to study Tony like this, with his defenses down and not hiding behind whatever front he thought people wanted to see.  There was no frat boy grin.  No jokes or crass comments.  Just Tony, nothing else.  A strong profile, head resting against the window, mouth open just a bit, relaxed, serene.

Times like this were rare, and Gibbs was going to relish every opportunity that presented itself.

Not really. I did get to see a bit of it, but not much. youtube is my friend, but 'tis still illegal to watch stuff on it here, so... yeah.

Yeah, post writers' strike. Those episodes. I want to see the one

*sighs for you* I thought you might have gotten up to date when away in places with less stringent laws.

I meant to download everything in Ireland, but best friend's internet connection was so ridiculously slow that I gave up on that pretty quickly.

ooh, bummer! But you had fun and that's more important!

[identity profile] chatona.livejournal.com 2008-08-03 07:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, hell yeah, I did! I had a fantastic time! Did you see the pictures? :D

[identity profile] chatona.livejournal.com 2008-08-03 07:36 pm (UTC)(link)
It's such a pretty country ♥

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-08-03 07:38 pm (UTC)(link)
lucky dog- you getting to spend so much time there!

[identity profile] chatona.livejournal.com 2008-08-03 07:39 pm (UTC)(link)
's only two hours away, after all. But really. 's not nearly enough time. I miss my best friend.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-08-03 07:40 pm (UTC)(link)
only two hours? *boggles* My American brain has difficulty with the idea of countries that close together

[identity profile] chatona.livejournal.com 2008-08-03 07:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Only two hours on a plane. Takes me about ... forty minutes to the Netherlands, and that's by car.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-08-03 07:43 pm (UTC)(link)
wow- it was 5 hours by plane to inlawland- that'd be crossing over several countries where you are!

[identity profile] chatona.livejournal.com 2008-08-03 07:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Yep! Though you could drive for five hours and still be in Germany, too.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-08-03 07:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Same in MN. Depending which direction you go in of course

[identity profile] chatona.livejournal.com 2008-08-03 07:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Exactly. South, North and East is all lots of Germany for hours and hours. West? Netherlands, Belgium, Luxemburg, yay!

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-08-03 07:48 pm (UTC)(link)
MN isn't huge as far as states go, but it is pretty big in comparison to some. It's about an hour to WI from here (east), but S to Iowa or W to the Dakotas or N to Canada would take quite some time

[identity profile] chatona.livejournal.com 2008-08-03 07:49 pm (UTC)(link)
I know nothing about American geography- Okay, I admit, I fail at geography in general.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-08-03 07:52 pm (UTC)(link)
world geography is hard. And America's huge. All those stupid states!

[identity profile] chatona.livejournal.com 2008-08-03 07:58 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't even know all their names. I fail at geography, I do! And I don't even care.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-08-03 08:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Sometimes I do the geography quizzes here (http://www.sheppardsoftware.com/Geography.htm)to get the ol' noggin going, but overall, knowing all that isn't terribly important

[identity profile] chatona.livejournal.com 2008-08-03 08:00 pm (UTC)(link)
I've got google-maps if I need to find something, anyways *nods*

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-08-03 08:03 pm (UTC)(link)
and you're smart enough that if you're writing you'll check before mentioning something to make sure Tony can drive from D.C. to wherever without issue

[identity profile] chatona.livejournal.com 2008-08-03 08:04 pm (UTC)(link)
looked up the way from madrid airport to rota on googlemaps to see how long it'd take Tony to drive down there :D

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-08-03 08:05 pm (UTC)(link)
it's the little things like that that make a good writer. Most people won't notice if you don't, but those who do will ♥ you for it!

[identity profile] chatona.livejournal.com 2008-08-03 08:06 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm not big on research, but sometimes, you gotta do it and it's not like it isn't fun. And yeah, I also looked up his hotel and checked the distance to the NCIS Field Office in Rota. Hah!
