The Stakeout

Title: The Stakeout
Pairing/Warning/Rating: NCIS fandom, vague Gibbs/DiNozzo, rated G
Word Count: 200
Summary:  Gibbs takes advantage of an opportunity to study DiNozzo.
Author's Note:  Written for the [profile] ncisdrabble100 challenge: profile

The car was cold, but Gibbs couldn’t turn on the heater without giving away their position and ruining the stakeout.  Not there had been much to see, the house was as empty now as it had been when he and Tony relieved McGee and Ziva six hours ago.

After awhile Gibbs ordered Tony to grab some shut eye, claiming it was a defensive measure.  “You’re a menace when you’ve got nothing to do, DiNozzo,” he’d said.  “Shut up and get some sleep.”  Tony had protested, but eventually capitulated under the agreement that he’d be woken in an hour so Gibbs could rest himself.

Gibbs had no intention of doing that; he had enough coffee to see him through to dawn, but he wasn’t about to admit it to Tony.  He welcomed the chance to study Tony like this, with his defenses down and not hiding behind whatever front he thought people wanted to see.  There was no frat boy grin.  No jokes or crass comments.  Just Tony, nothing else.  A strong profile, head resting against the window, mouth open just a bit, relaxed, serene.

Times like this were rare, and Gibbs was going to relish every opportunity that presented itself.

very very pretty. I've made it work in my mind (It's all different masks he wears) but some continuity would be nice

although, even with that, I still can't see how some people write him like they do

Heaven knows they should be able to find at least SOME part of canon to stick with.

some of the stuff out there.. all I have to say is "why?"

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2008-08-06 07:15 pm (UTC)(link)
There's a lot of fic like that in EVERY fandom, some more than others *cough*HP*cough*.

oh good, I've never attempted to venture into that one. I shudder to think!

Don't. It's like a minefield. If you ever do, ask for recs from reputable sources and stick to them.

I doubt I will, but thanks.

I accidentally stumbled onto a decent wincest writer though. I never thought I'd be interested in that

I have a lot of SPN fans on my f-list, so I do that every once in awhile. It's always kind of awkward when it's not something you thought you'd be particularly interested in but you discover them to be really excellent writers.

I'll never write it, and never go out of my way to read it, but I may skim the better author's version of it from now on (especially the author that deals more with plot and adventure than just the pwp aspects)

I like when people write the adventure type stories and do it well.

it takes a lot more work than they typical fanfic offering, but it's worth it!

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-08-06 09:13 pm (UTC)(link)
but it depends what you want. Sometimes you only have 10 minutes and want something lighthearted and cracky or hot and steamy but utterly plotless either way

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2008-08-06 10:05 pm (UTC)(link)
I usually go for the steamy when I only have a short time...but, then, I'm sure you probably could've guessed that.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-08-06 10:07 pm (UTC)(link)
you? never!

For me it depends, if I'm at work steamy can be bad

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-08-06 10:47 pm (UTC)(link)
although, bursting out in laughter is also bad

My coworkers are used to it.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-08-06 10:58 pm (UTC)(link)
most likely.
