When it was announced they were going to offer permanent accounts again, I was considering it until I read this...
It's almost here—the Permanent Account sale! For a limited time only, you can purchase a Permanent Account for only $175.
Okay, seriously? Last time it was offered it was something like $99, a year later it's this much more? *sigh* Before it was the same price as 5 years of paid account, now it's nearly 9? Wow. Even with it offering a few more amenities, that's still *really* expensive.
Anyone thinking of getting one or already have one and are very happy with it?

I've had mine for three or so years. I worked out that with me being an icon junkie and always buying extra pics it would have paid for itself in about four years.
I'm happy with mine - there aren't a huge amounts of benefits. You get more pic space (but I never used scrapbook) and voice posts (which I never use) and the full 144 icons (which I love). So yes, I'm more than happy with mine.
EDIT And it appears that the extra $25.00 will go to charity

But it's good to know you really like having it

June 2007 (the last time they were offered) http://community.livejournal.com/lj_biz/240498.html As you can see that is $150. Now $25.00 went to charity then if you bought in the first 36 hours, but other than that I am at a loss.
And in June 2005 (when I bought mine, I've just checked) it was definitely $150.

I've always said that sanity is dreadfully overrated.
As someone pointed out this time, they aren't donating out of their own 'pocket' this time, are they?

I'm glad.
