The Baby Shower

Title: The Baby Shower
Pairing/Rating/Warning: none, rated G
Word Count: 100
Summary: Jack and Ianto discuss the idea of throwing a baby shower
Author's Note: Written for [profile] fandom_me  who wanted a story where Jack was celebrating something, I hope planning the celebration instead is okay...

“A baby shower, Ianto, that’s what we need to do!  We need to throw her a baby shower!”

“A baby shower, Sir?”

“Sure!  Why not?  She’d love it.  Everyone loves a baby shower!”

“But... a baby shower?”

“Come on, it’ll be fun.  It’ll give us a chance to spruce up the place...”

“Spruce up, Sir?”

“We’ll scrub this place till it shines!  Maybe hang some decorations...”

“Decorations, Sir?”

“Of course decorations!  Baby showers need decorations!  It’s tradition!!”

“I wasn’t aware that there were traditions regarding pterodactyls, Sir”

“Very funny.  You can be such a spoilsport, Ianto.”

“Just being practical, Sir.”

I'm a Brit from Liverpool and I've been to loads of baby showers (that were called baby showers too) so I think it just depends on the people involved what that sort of party is called. As Jack's American he would think like that, even if the rest of the team had to look up what the heck a baby shower was on wiki or google... though I din't think Myfanwy would really care one way or the other.

I wonder if it's coming into usage more, picked up from shows like Friends. I have never come across a baby shower in Bradford, although I know what it means - also there still seems to be a lingering superstition about giving gifts before the baby is born.

Excellent. I'm glad to hear others use the term as well. And good point and Jack and Myfanwy!
