Dear Anonymous,

Thank you so much for your many comments on my stories.  I really appreciate the level of commitment it shows.  I do apologize for "spamming the comms with my trite nonsense” however, I must admit, I am a bit confused since that comment was left on a drabble that was never posted anywhere other than my own personal journal.  I also understand that not everyone appreciates crossovers, however it is unfortunate that you felt so vehemently against them.  May I suggest that you avoid reading stories that are labeled as such?  I realize this might be too simple a solution, but it may just succeed.

I also am aware that sometimes I have, in the past, made errors in punctuation in my stories.  Perhaps the twelve year olds that you know write with greater skill than my daughter, who happens to be that age, because what she does to the comma can only be described as criminal.  I have been lucky enough to work with several betas who prevent my comma usage from offending all but the most sensitive of people more recently in order to address these issues.

I have changed the way my journal is set up so that it no longer allows anonymous comments.  If you choose to leave a signed comment I will be more than happy to discuss my writing with you.  I do, however, plan on continuing to write and post my stories, hopefully there are other people out there who feel differently about my writing abilities than you.

Sincerely, donutsweeper

Ah the joys of the anonymous commenter. Mine just kept commenting about Owen apparently date-raping. Nothing to do with the story at all, but they felt entitled to leave such comments.

Much love for your letter to them!

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2007-11-07 01:38 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't understand their hatred of Owen, sorry you've been hit with nutters as well. [livejournal.com profile] fandom_me explained here (http://community.livejournal.com/torch_wood/1915204.html) how to change your settings so they can't bother you again.

Oh god I caught sight of your problem out of the corner of my eye and I
KNOW I meant to comment with something lovely and supportive. I can't remember if I did though I was kind of blinkered last night there for a while.
GAH I seriously don't understand the mindset of some people!

It gave me a huge happy when I found your cross-over stuff. I mean I'd never even contemplated DS slash but Benton/Jack works *so* perfectly.

And you've seen the crimes I commit with punctuation ;-)

*goes off to check my settings*

I'm glad you enjoy by DS stuff, it's been fun to revisit that show. And thanks for the support :)

Oh for the love of... This kind of thing is something I've never understood. Love the letter - let them act like the twelve year old twits.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2007-11-07 01:40 pm (UTC)(link)
*blush* thanks. It was either deal with it this way or curl up in the corner and cry. I can't say they didn't bother me, or throw me off in my writing, but at least I feel a little better about it now.

I missed all of this trolling and I've lucky not to be subjected to it myself (maybe Ace scared them off). It might have been fun to stomp all over them, but you seem to have dealt womanfully with the little sod anyway. I look forward to seeing new entries by you be it fic or other things.

Sending virtual chocolate and donuts (or doughnuts if you want UK ones, you can get some nice chocolate filled chocolate ones over here).

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2007-11-07 01:43 pm (UTC)(link)
oooh, chocolate filled doughnuts (they're spelled both ways here, donuts is just shorter to type). I'm glad you've never been targeted. Maybe they like Highlander crossovers? I hope you never have to deal with people like that.

... Some people are just weird.

Good to hear you decided to disable anonymous posting :D Seems like the right thing to do :D

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2007-11-07 01:44 pm (UTC)(link)
I suggest you disable anonymous posting too, just to be on the safe side. [livejournal.com profile] fandom_me explained how here (http://community.livejournal.com/torch_wood/1915204.html)

Missed the original post--& frankly, not interested in reading a puerile & petty personal attack (& not trying to be cute here, just the first words that came to mind)--but your response was both mature & courteous. Your point that the drabble that the...person...was reacting to was in your personal journal & not in a public forum was well-taken, though I doubt the distinction matters to such bullies, since they are probably just looking for an opportunity & pretext to tear someone else down.

While I'm at it: I state freely & for the record that I'm pretty severely tact-challenged, & since I've gotten into just as bad fights when I've tried to be tactful than if I just said what I thought & let the chips fall where they would, I concentrate on saying my piece as clearly & precisely as possible. But I do not make abusive personal attacks; that is completely beyond the line, whether in a professional or an amateur context.

Again, your response to this...person...was both mature & courteous.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2007-11-07 06:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks. Unfortunately there were many posts by this person, and many of them (maybe half of the 20 or so posts)were literally several paragraphs long.

I don't mind people being frank and saying "I didn't like this because X" or "Y seemed like a cop out" etc as long as they're willing to discuss with me WHY they feel that way. I've had many interesting discussions due to that.

Hopefully this idiot will stay away from the TW LJ boards from now on so no one else has to deal with them. :)

Oh, good grief. I don't understand the mindset that produces unhelpful criticism in the first place, and to do it anonymously is just that much more immature. I missed the incident, but I'm sorry you were subjected to it.

*I* feel differently about your writing abilities! ::hug::

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2007-11-07 06:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks, it means a lot. I started getting a few on Monday and they just kept coming and coming till [livejournal.com profile] fandom_me explained to me how to block them.

Aw, hon, I'm sorry you had to deal with this. ::hugs::

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2007-11-08 05:30 am (UTC)(link)
thanks. it's thrown me off my game a bit, but I'm trying to muddle through.
