mad_jaks and I recently were discussing fic titles and how sometimes two totally different stories in two totally different fandoms wind up with the same title, so she came up with a meme idea:
Give me a title and I shall write a snippet for it in several different fandoms of my choosing.
random snippets from different stories with the title "Killing Time":
NCIS (last three lines)
"We did it, Boss." Tony sighed, exhausted. "We got him."
"Yeah, we did," Gibbs agreed, grabbing the reports off the printer. "Make sure the i's are dotted and the t's crossed. He's not getting out of this one. Not this time."
Supernatural (first three lines)
"You find us a case yet, Sam?"
"Nope. Dude, it's weird. There's nothing out there, no demon activity, no unexplained animal attacks, not even a simple haunting. It's like it all just.. stopped."
"Well, that can't be good."
Highlander (a bit from the middle)
Duncan tested the bars again. The middle one seemed a little looser now. Another few weeks and he might just get out of here. With renewed vigor he began working on it again.
The one I want to know the most about from this now is poor Duncan! Is he all alone and trapped? Just in some old jail cell trying to get out? Or something more?? Maybe the Hunters captured him... Oh my!
And poor Dean and Sam... There's nothing supernatural for them... poor boys. And of course, that means it is hinky.
Gibbs. Tony. Just an average day at NCIS. Or was it? Just who did they catch? Hopefully the reason Duncan's trying to escape from behind bars wasn't because Tony and Gibbs dotted those i's and crossed those t's. :-)
Tony bit back the retort that was on the tip of his tongue. Petty Officer Third Class Tommy Jensen wouldn't respond, a Petty Officer probably wouldn't even think there was anything wrong. "Yes, Sir." He licked his lips. "Of course, Sir," he said before picking up the gun. Gibbs would be here before he'd have to use it. He was sure of it.
Torchwood
The rift monitors were screaming. "Talk to me, Tosh!" Jack called out over the din.
"I don't know what came through, but whatever it is, it's big!"
"Feed the coordinates through, when you get them!" Jack grabbed his coat. "Gwen, Owen, you're with me!"
Leverage
"It's a simple con," Nate explained, leaning on the back of the chair. "We just need to convince them there's no downside to their plan and we're willing to give them a hand."
"Wait a minute, wait a minute, wait a minute." Hardison held up a hand. "You want us to help them distribute weakened vaccinations?"
Hmmm now I *know* we have radically different styles when it comes to titling things - and I'm tempted to give you some of my own more mathematical ones but that would just be mean...
Ooh I know
1) Getting Better 2) Not Waving but Drowning 3) Luck in the Shadows
Perhaps Tony had gotten too used to this, lusting from afar, never getting close, but it was too risky. His career, maybe even his life, was at stake.
*sighs* Highlander (beginning snippet)
Adam Pierson thought it humorous, how they watched, but didn't interfere. For him, it was the best hiding place, and the safest, ferreting out fake rumors of his own existence and tweaking them for his own benefit.
Forever Knight (end snippet)
Lacroix's voice drifted out of the radio, mingling with the sounds of the city as Nick drove home, making it in just before the sun. They would both live to hunt another day.
"Are you sure this is a good idea?" Jack turned to Ianto.
"It's fine. Have a go at it, Sir."
Hesitantly, with one last look at Ianto, Jack tossed the squeaky ball in the air. It disappeared with a flap of wings and a quick woosh.
Doctor Who
Martha watched from the window as the children played. It was just a harmless game of marbles, but the way the balls moved and smack into each other made her shudder.
"You okay?" Tom snaked his arms around her and pulled her into a hug.
Wilson ignored the rain as he stood on the balcony, carefully pulling down his sleeves and rebuttoning them at the wrist before shrugging on his lab coat. Today was as good a day as any.
Torchwood
"We only have five minutes," Jack whispered before he even stopped to see if Owen was waiting for him in alcove.
"More than enough time," came the quiet reply as hands divested him of his ocat.
Ray grumbled and gave a half-hearted kick as he called out, "Benny, your mutt's going after the donuts again!"
"Ray, as I have explained in the past," Fraser called from the other room, "it is hardly his fault. If you were to perhaps close the lid then the temptation would no longer be there."
Ray glared Diefenbaker. "You'd go after them anyway wouldn't you?" Dief licked his chops in response. "I knew it," Ray muttered.
NCIS
Ducky sat back in the visitor's chair. It had been a minor lie, using his medical position to force them to let him stay the night, but a necessary one. He had to stay, he just had to.

"Nate, you can't mean that!" Sophie jumped in.
"Did I say that?" Nate smiled.

Ah, episodes of TV shows, too. One that comes to mind is Buffy and Supernatural(?) both have eps called "Conversations with Dead People."
Okay! "Red Rubber Ball" :)

NCIS
Tony look at the red rubber ball dangling from the leather strip he held with two fingers with a mixture of fear and rising lust.
"You want me to wear this?" he questioned with a catch in his voice.
"That's the general idea, Honey Buns."

Owen looked over at Jack. "And you're blaming me for this?" It wasn't quite a yell, but it was close.
Jack glared back. "If the shoe fits," he responded, his tone cold and menacing.
Invisible Man
"You're being paranoid again, Hobbes."
Fawkes voice had come from somewhere to Hobbes' left so he turned in that direction. "It's not paranoia, it's called trying to stay alive."
"Same difference." This time the voice came from Hobbes' right.
"Will you stop doing that!
