Because kids without books is a sad thing....

A friend of mine here on LJ,[livejournal.com profile] rustydog, had a tornado rip though her hometown. There was a lot of damage and the middle school was condemned as a result. The students have been split up to finish off the school year and they way things have wound up the sixth graders no longer have a library. A few of the teachers have brought in some books from home, but in general, for the rest of this year (and possibly next year as well) they will have few, if any, books at their disposal.

[livejournal.com profile] rustydog has been trying to find books she can donate to the school. If you happen to have any to donate and live in the US media mail is a very cheap way to send books (I just mailed 32 pounds of books to her for under $14) or, if you'd like, the school has also set up an amazon wish list.

All the information about this can be found in her post here.

That was wonderful of your kids! Make sure you tell them that they are all sorts of AWESOME for doing that from me?

Parcelling up old books to ship from here isn't really doable.

I shall! We usually go through old books every few years to donate them to a battered women's shelter here, but the kids, daughter in particular, were very taken with the idea of sending them off to Rusty.

:) No, you shipping books isn't really feasible!
