Writing Projects

I'd been debating doing yuletide this year because there were three fandoms that I actually had requests for this year, but now I've found out one (the one I wanted most) won't be making the final cut. :( I think I'll look into pinch hitting instead.

On the writing front the idea of NaNowrimo scares the heck out of me and even [livejournal.com profile] mini_nanowrimo seems a bit too demanding, but [livejournal.com profile] wrisomifu seems right on the money for me. It "is a writing group for underachievers who enjoy the company of same. To join, all you need to do is commit to writing (original fic, fanfic, to do lists, your thesis, your memoirs - anything!) for at least ten minutes each day for the entire month of November. And you are permitted - encouraged even! - to complain bitterly about every single word."

I can do that. And I thought I'd mention it in case anyone else felt the same way.

Even though I'm officially doing Nano, I think I'll join Wrisomufu anyway! The name endears it to me :)

Isn't the name the best? And if you are doing Nano, I suppose the extra encouragement can't hurt!

I think I can still manage Yuletide, even though both MASH, Numb3rs, Merlin and NCIS are rejected. How the hell was MASH rejected? The fandom is slower than a snail doing long division!

If I didn't have two people giving birth in November, I'd be tempted to try Wrisomifu. Maybe next year.

NCIS absolutely didn't belong there as a small fandom, and from what I've seen on my flist with Numb3rs and Merlin they do seem pretty active, but I am surprised about MASH. I was hoping for Magnificent Seven (the tv show) there's very little new going on even though some people are trying to drum up interest.

*hee* love your icon

Just the name makes me giggle! Already signed up for NaNo, otherwise I'd join. Totally do not need extra distractions this time around.

The name is all kinds of awesome, that's why I checked it out in the first place. Good luck with NaNo!

Ha! I could use WriSoMiFu.

That's great.

I'm hoping wrisomifu is the kick in the pants I need to get my writing going. And the name just WINS

And it sounds like lunch, besides! Something you'd find in your bento box.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-10-26 06:32 pm (UTC)(link)
*giggles* it does indeed!

WriSoMiFu - I like that idea! And the name. :)

When I write, I feel like an armless legless man with a crayon in his mouth.

AWESOME.

Isn't it a wonderful name for a comm? And I love how laid back it appears to be. *giggles* that is great!

Heh. I was MiFu last year and it did wonders to get me through my feelings of inadequacies at all the NaNo posts on my flist. I plan on being a MiFu this year as well - hopefully I'll be a bit less miserable come December. ;)

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-10-26 06:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, I'm glad to know it was helpful. I knew it sounded like a good idea, but that's not the same as *being* a good idea, if you know what I mean.

[identity profile] travels-in-time.livejournal.com 2009-10-26 06:35 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm already a MiFu; I might as well get credit for it. *signs up for an invite*

Hurray, I'm in! And good timing, too, as I've been hit with a sudden attack of writing shyness. I can't even manage to write up my reaction to the SJA, much less any actual fiction.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-10-26 07:42 pm (UTC)(link)
YAY!!!! With all of us plugging away at that comm it's got to help bring us out of out hiding places

Pinch hitting is a good way to go, because you can basically choose what you're going to write rather than sitting there awaiting the assignment. Although seeing the requests flood your inbox can be a bit over-whelming.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-10-26 07:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, that's what I was figuring. There are a lot of fandoms on the list I could write for, but only with very specific characters or prompts. I had 3 could probably do no problem, but with the removal of one of them it makes things a bit harder.

[identity profile] karaokegal.livejournal.com 2009-10-26 07:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Just sit back, watch the requests come in and I guarantee you'll see one that you immediately think "YEAH, I can write that" and the fic will appear nearly full-blown in your mind.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-10-26 07:42 pm (UTC)(link)
That really is my hope. I tend to do best under pressure and with a prompt in hand.

*smiles* PG-rated soul that I am, I'm not sure about joining a community where I'm not comfortable writing the whole name out, but I'll be cheering you all on from the sidelines. My NaNo project is to get through my ridukkulos list of promised fics - I haven't quite got 30, but if I could write half of one each day, that would just about get me there!

Still, the comm's a great idea, and hopefully it'll give folks the support/kick they need ;)

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-10-26 08:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Yay! Here's hoping you get through some of your promised fics!
