Note to self

Glass does not bounce. Whoops. BRB I have a lot of sweeping to do.

I've noticed the fact they don't bounce as well.

And boy does the glass spread.

Oh, man, you will be finding tiny shards for weeks... usually with your feet.

[identity profile] mad-jaks.livejournal.com 2009-11-12 08:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Not if she uses a slice of bread to mop them up with - then she'll only be finding the really stray ones that ended up half under *insert large kitchen appliance here*

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-11-12 09:00 pm (UTC)(link)
how on earth do you mop it up with bread?

This was a big glass bowl btw, massive glass shards everywhere all over the kitchen floor

[identity profile] mad-jaks.livejournal.com 2009-11-12 08:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Damn! You didn't cut yourself did you?

Did you remember the trick with the bread??

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-11-12 08:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Not really, but I keep sweeping and keep finding more shards

Bread?

[identity profile] mad-jaks.livejournal.com 2009-11-12 09:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Go to where you suspect there are some shards. Arm yourself with one (or more) slices of bread - if no one in your house eats the crust use those. Dab/wipe at the floor with them, they'll pick up all the tiny slivers really well.

OUCH! For big glass shards there's always slippers?

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-11-12 09:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah, I never heard of doing that. I'm planning on mopping, but I have to wait until later

Yeah. Slippers. That would have made sense.

[identity profile] mad-jaks.livejournal.com 2009-11-12 10:09 pm (UTC)(link)
It's maybe a trick I learned from my mum - I can't ever remember NOT doing it.

*crosses fingers that kitnins do not pick up any shrapnel*

Not even on carpet, apparently, as my poor coffee pot can attest to.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-11-13 03:06 pm (UTC)(link)
oh dear. At least the shattering is a bit contained on carpet?

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2009-11-13 11:44 pm (UTC)(link)
A bit. Not like when you drop a plate on the linolium, that's for sure.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-11-14 02:57 am (UTC)(link)
YEah, I discovered just how much it likes to shatter on tile/linolium

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2009-11-14 05:41 am (UTC)(link)
It's like you put a bomb in the glass.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-11-14 05:43 am (UTC)(link)
I swept 5x and mopped yesterday and I STILL stepped on a piece of glass this morning (teeny tiny sliver, but still)

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2009-11-14 07:30 am (UTC)(link)
You always manage to find the shards with your feet, too, never by just looking.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-11-14 04:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Same way you'll always find the one lego on the floor or single die or dropped cheetoh or whatever, right?

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2009-11-14 11:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Right.

Or the cat hiding under the couch.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-11-14 11:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Or the lovely 'present' the cat left you in the middle of the night. (stepping on a hairball in barefeet. EWWW)

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2009-11-15 12:19 am (UTC)(link)
Ah, yes. I think I've intentionally blocked such memories.

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2009-11-15 12:24 am (UTC)(link)
I do, however, recall many a feline foot getting shoved up my nose for my 5 AM wake-up calls.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-11-15 12:25 am (UTC)(link)
Ah the *poke, poke* Hey are you awake? *poke, poke* You awake? *poke*

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2009-11-15 12:27 am (UTC)(link)
Yes. Somedays, I swear they read Garfield.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-11-15 12:29 am (UTC)(link)
they totally DO. Evil little buggers. It's a good thing they are so cute.

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2009-11-15 12:31 am (UTC)(link)
Those plots for world domination would never succeed, otherwise.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-11-15 12:32 am (UTC)(link)
all that's really preventing them is a lack of opposable thumbs and a weakness for tuna

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-11-15 06:15 am (UTC)(link)
We are all one remote activated can opener away from being ruled by cats

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2009-11-15 06:19 am (UTC)(link)
We're screwed if someone decides to get all clever and make one.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-11-15 06:21 am (UTC)(link)
absolutely. Although we do have the chin skritch has a backup if necessary

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2009-11-15 06:30 am (UTC)(link)
Unless, of course, our arms get tired. Then we're in trouble. I actually had to carefully extract myself from a bookstore today for just that reason.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-11-15 06:31 am (UTC)(link)
We still have decent laps then. And if we were just about to get up to refil our empty coffee cups when they decide to take advantage of our laps, that much the better!

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2009-11-15 06:58 am (UTC)(link)
Good point. Although, I suppose it depends on what time of day you're trying to refill your coffee.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-11-15 06:59 am (UTC)(link)
the need to refill coffee is a constant for me, no matter the time of day

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2009-11-15 03:10 pm (UTC)(link)
I usually have to make my cups last, sadly, because I don't get the chance to refill during work.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-11-15 03:20 pm (UTC)(link)
ah, during work is an entirely different beast. :(

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2009-11-16 07:45 am (UTC)(link)
Which is why I often end up getting a cup after work, too.
