It's very annoying. I never figure out outlines before writing, I have a vague general idea of what the story is about and let the characters guide me. It can sometimes be dangerous, like a 1k detour in the flashback where Jack is roped into having 'tea and crumbits' with a little kid and her stuffed animals, but usually it at least works to direct the story somewhere
