rugs and recs and whatnot

I finished my hats for the homeless hat... and I kind of hate it. Not sure I'll try to do another, but if I do I'll only do one in the round rather than a flat and then sew together one. I need a new crochet project but I've been very indecisive about it. Something useful, yet utterly boring, like another pair of oven mitts? A blanket of some sort? I think I'll look for something I can watch Cdramas while making which limits what it'll be somewhat but I just keep scrolling ravelry and haven't found anything I really want to try.

I started and finished (all in under a day) the Target+Supermarket bags and air bubble strip runner rug and got a little more done on the plastic cordage rug:

it take SO much plastic and SO much time, these kind of rugs take forever, but it's a neat craft and made out of what would be garbage so....

I love languages and reading about translation choices and it was fascinating to read about the attempts and difficulties of translating that tumblr post 'His wife has filled his house with chintz. To keep it real I fuck him on the floor' into numerous languages - the post is easiest to read if you have a tumblr acct here, but without an account it can be read here.

- THE SPECKLED BAND’S ENDING WAS WAY FUNNIER THAN I THOUGHT IT WOULD BE LIKE SHERLOCK YOU JUST KILLED A MAN (Watson's face in particular in this doodle comic is just hilarious)

ST:TNG
- Showing my cat parts of the ship she has never seen: i think he would kill it on space tiktok (Data and Spot! Love it!)

Supernatural
- Quilted Portraits No. 2 of Baby, the Impala (gorgeous quilts! I am so impressed with these)

The Blues Brothers
- Jake and Elwood (excellent gouache painting of the brothers)

The Muppet Show/Wallace and Gromit crossover
- Happy International Dog Puppet Day! "I invented this holiday as an excuse to draw Gromit and Rowlf hanging out" (very fun!)

InklingDancer podficced an old (wow, 10 years old actually) Arrow double drabble of mine, "The Armor's Chink" and it's really well done, go give a listen!

Agreed. It's challenging to understand both languages and cultures so as to find the functional equivalent expression in the target language.

He *was* my fandom for probably three years or so, he was so complex! And interesting. I just realized I never uploaded all my Jack icons from livejournal here, I had so so so many at one point in time. :(

I was mainly into Jack/Doctor, so I missed a lot of Jack stuff from other corners of the fandom, but I loved him so much. I do still have all my icons, at least! *g*

Which Doctor did you ship him with?

All of them! Every incarnation. I started during the Ten era, so that's the majority of what I wrote (and I never actually wrote Old Who), but I read anything I could get my hands on.

Lol, that's fair! Jack/Ten is great but all are good too. Not sure I can see all the old Who Doctors but I could be convinced easily by good fic. Ages ago there was a great Five/Jack one. Also some old who companions/Jack ones.

I wish I had kept better track of all the fic I read back then! IIRC navaan wrote a few Five/Jack fics; it might have been one of hers?

Hrmm, maybe? I don't really remember any details of it, I had to have read it at least a decade ago if not closer to a decade and a half. Miracle Day was kind of the final nail in the coffin for me seeking out Jack or Torchwood stuff. If I still stumble upon it, fine, but I stopped purposely trying to look for it.

I really hated Miracle Day too. Unlike most of the fandom, I loved Children of Earth, but that one was just unpleasant to watch.

I couldn't finish Miracle Day, which just made me sad and angry but it was exactly like you said, just unpleasant to watch.
