Donuts in Dresden Files

Ordering a doughnut saves Harry's life.  Yes, a doughnut, "with sprinkles 'pon it... and frosting of white."

I knew I liked Harry!!

Bwahaha! Never underestimate the donut.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-05-12 02:36 am (UTC)(link)
and when it finally arrives and eats it? "Cake Doughnut. White Frosting. Sprinkles. Still warm.... Pure Heaven."

I knew I liked Jim Butcher!!! He knows how important donuts are!

Smart man! And it's nice to know that Harry appreciates a good donut.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-05-12 02:49 am (UTC)(link)
Harry has a 30 pound cat that pushes around his 180 pound dog. He loves donuts and good beer. And his best friend is a talking skull. The man's amazing

It's sad that the cat and the dog didn't end up on the TV show. I'm going to have to try reading the books again one day.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-05-12 02:58 am (UTC)(link)
Honestly, the first couple have some issues. The first I really got interested in was "Summer Knight" which is the fourth book (I actually didn't finish 'Grave Peril' the 3rd one)

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_medley_/ 2008-05-12 03:07 am (UTC)(link)
Good to know! Maybe I'll start with the fourth one.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-05-12 03:11 am (UTC)(link)
There's quite a bit to like in them, but, *looks around sheepishly* even the newer ones I find drag a bit in the fight scenes

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_medley_/ 2008-05-12 03:17 am (UTC)(link)
I'll bear that in mind! I tend to treat fight scenes like I treat extensive technobabble--I tend to skim. *g*

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-05-12 03:19 am (UTC)(link)
for the most part you won't miss much if you do that with these books. And, honestly, I just don't have the patience otherwise.

[identity profile] aeron-lanart.livejournal.com 2008-05-12 09:37 am (UTC)(link)
I started with he first one after donutsweeper got me hooked with a piece of fic. I'm now waiting for the last 3 to come into the library. i figured getting them from the library would make me read them a little slower... hasn't really worked though. It stands to reason Harry would like donuts, he's a sensible guy (ish).

And I need a Harry Dresden icon.

I love the books, but I do like the character they gave Bob in the series. And I *love* his car. I see the equivalent of the 'blue beetle' driving around Liverpool sometimes.

And btw... Happy Birthday!

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-05-12 02:36 pm (UTC)(link)
I like both Bobs. They're very different, but both fun in their own way!

oh yes- his car is hysterical, especially with all the comments about what happened to make the various dents and whatnot!

And thanks! :)

I was way too fond of Hrothbert to read the books the first time I tried. I do wish they'd given TV Harry Book!Harry's car, though. And Mister and Mouse!

[identity profile] lizz-112.livejournal.com 2008-05-12 03:53 am (UTC)(link)
*snicker*

BTW, Happy Birthday dear!
Hope your day is full of doughnutty goodness :D

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-05-12 03:53 am (UTC)(link)
*tips hat* thank you!!! With luck, it will be! :)

[identity profile] awanderingbard.livejournal.com 2008-05-12 04:37 am (UTC)(link)
Hehe, when I got to that point of the book, I thought of you m'dear. That was a brilliant move on Harry's part, wasn't it? I thoroughly enjoyed that twist. :-)

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-05-12 04:38 am (UTC)(link)
:) It WAS brilliant! He knew it would have to go get him the donut!

[identity profile] mad-jaks.livejournal.com 2008-05-12 06:59 am (UTC)(link)
Awesome :D

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-05-12 02:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Isn't it? Donuts=lifesavers. As it should be!

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2008-05-12 11:02 am (UTC)(link)
This just gave me a reason to actually go read those books.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-05-12 02:39 pm (UTC)(link)
:) There's also a 30 pound (perfectly normal) cat that orders Harry around and thinks it owns the apartment they live in

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-05-13 03:09 am (UTC)(link)
Jim Butcher obviously knows cats. They are the ones in charge. no matter what

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2008-05-13 03:10 am (UTC)(link)
Even if they let you think you're in charge.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-05-13 03:10 am (UTC)(link)
it's all part of their evil plan

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-05-13 03:44 am (UTC)(link)
then again... all cats are pretty much just evil anyway

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-05-13 03:49 am (UTC)(link)
I will not laugh at my cat for just rolling over and falling off the couch. Really. I won't laugh.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-05-13 03:51 am (UTC)(link)
He gave me the evil eye and double dared me. I reached over and patted him on the head. Which is worse than laughing probably

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2008-05-13 03:55 am (UTC)(link)
Probably. You might want to sleep with one eye open.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-05-13 03:57 am (UTC)(link)
and step carefully in the morning in case he decided to gift me any hairballs during the night!

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-05-13 04:01 am (UTC)(link)
*sigh* they always get their revenge, don't they?

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2008-05-13 05:37 am (UTC)(link)
In one way or another.

[identity profile] phoenix64.livejournal.com 2008-05-12 02:43 pm (UTC)(link)
I of course thought of you reading that, which made me go all warm and fuzzy inside.

Happy Birthday!

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-05-12 02:44 pm (UTC)(link)
:D Yay! That makes me incredibly happy!

[identity profile] chatona.livejournal.com 2008-05-13 06:49 pm (UTC)(link)
YAY!

Bestest thing! I just found the book in a nicely packet parcel from amazon on my desk today. Yay!

Hardcover, though. 'm going to order the paperback once it comes out. D'you happen to want the hardback? I shall give it away lest it be clustering up my poor abused bookshelves. Once the paperback comes out *nods*

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-05-13 09:36 pm (UTC)(link)
oh that's terribly sweet of you but it would be prohibitively expensive to send it to the US!
