Everyone probably already saw this, but...

BBC Wales and BBC Drama has announced that BAFTA and Hugo Award-winning writer Steven Moffat will succeed Russell T Davies as Lead Writer and Executive Producer of the fifth series of Doctor Who, which will broadcast on BBC One in 2010.

See this press release for more details...

*does a happy dance*  OMG Steven Moffat!!!

my liking a television show nearly guarantees it's cancellation

Funny in that "bang your head against the wall" sort of way.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-05-21 09:02 pm (UTC)(link)
ah yes, very familiar with that feeling!

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2008-05-21 09:04 pm (UTC)(link)
With network TV, it's definitely not a unique feeling.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-05-21 09:06 pm (UTC)(link)
I have that kind of luck with all TV- network and cable

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2008-05-21 09:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, now that I think of it, it's kind of just a general TV feeling.

I can never decide which is worse, when they out right cancel a show or when they muck about with it and destroy it anyway since it's not the show you knew and loved before

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2008-05-21 09:37 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't know. I think I'd rather my show go out with a bang instead of die a slow, painful death.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-05-21 09:39 pm (UTC)(link)
good point. Then there are shows that are moving along happily and the writers destroy in the finale by killing off your favorite characters

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2008-05-21 09:46 pm (UTC)(link)
And this season, there are SO MANY OF THEM.

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2008-05-21 09:52 pm (UTC)(link)
All of the shows kind of went out with a bang this season and, oddly enough, only one or two really shocked me.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-05-21 09:54 pm (UTC)(link)
most went out on more of a whimper for me, even *if* they were supposed to be a bang

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2008-05-21 09:55 pm (UTC)(link)
I think the only one that really ended up being a bang (so far) was Numb3rs. I really wasn't expecting the ending they gave us. I would've preferred a death, I think.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-05-21 09:57 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't watch that. I thought House was powerful. Bones, NCIS, Supernatural all king of lame (and I know i've seen other finales but can't even come up with them, which says something I think)

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2008-05-21 10:03 pm (UTC)(link)
For Numb3rs, they basically destroyed the whole premise of the show. Completely. I'm really interested to see how they work this one out.

Supernatural really disappointed me. Seriously, I saw that one coming from a mile away. I know they were kind of pressed to end the season with a bang, but I think they should've spent some more time on it.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-05-21 10:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Supernatural went out with a whimper, thats for sure.

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2008-05-21 10:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Dean certainly deserved a better death than that.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-05-21 10:10 pm (UTC)(link)
it was just kind of... blah and lame and ho hum, he's dead

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2008-05-21 10:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Exactly. And then there was that little "oh, by the way, the creepy-ass demon child is suddenly powerless again Sam".

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-05-21 10:15 pm (UTC)(link)
I had difficulty caring about that
