Whistle While You Work

Title: Whistle While You Work
Pairing/Warning/Rating: Jack/Ianto, many things usually warned for implied or a crack warning, rated R
Word Count: 100
Summary:  Ianto's life took an unexpected turn after quitting Torchwood.
Author's Note: Written for the [community profile] tw100 challenge: Life After Torchwood, but blame for it rests solely on [personal profile] mad_jaks shoulders.  Now with a prequel

Ianto whistled happily as he puttered about, preparing the morning coffee.  This wasn’t the sort of future he’d planned, but after three years he’d grown to love it.

Are you sure you want to do this?  You’ll find leaving Torchwood is easy.  Jack had told him.  It’s leaving me that’s hard.

Ianto hadn’t realized the threat, or the promise, behind those words when he’d handed in his resignation.  But the next day they’d become evident.  He’d woken up with his memories, but without his clothes.  He’d earned a collar since then, and extensions for his chains.  Life couldn’t be better.

I've also noted I tend to overuse similar phrases. I always try to reread things and make sure someone isn't grinning happily 17 times or something like that

I do that, too, though usually in my academic essays. TAs really don't like when they have to read the same phrase over and over in one essay.

it's a frustrating thing to realize you've done, isn't it?

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-06-25 09:49 am (UTC)(link)
Sometimes I only notice it later, usually if I'm rereading it in a different format, like after it's posted to LJ or if I've printed it out to read

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2008-06-25 09:54 am (UTC)(link)
I usually notice a lot more easily if I've printed the thing.

I'm too cheap to print things at home, but I'll do it at work sometimes so anything long I've written just to check

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2008-06-25 10:03 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I don't even have a print at home. I just print stuff from the school library.

I have a printer, but it's perpetually broken or out of ink or randomly not working. I like using the work one, if they're sucking my soul at least I'm going to sneak some free copies and prints out of it

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2008-06-25 10:08 am (UTC)(link)
Ink is far too expensive. Having a work printer to sneak stuff out on is always a good thing.

Heh. My mind, of course, went to TW just now.

Jack and the copy machine in Kiss Kiss Bang Bang?

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-06-25 03:26 pm (UTC)(link)
oh YES! *facepalm* how could I forget that! I'm not the biggest J/I fan, but that whole office scene was adorable

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2008-06-25 04:29 pm (UTC)(link)
I can never look at a copy machine quite the same again. Nor an office, for that matter, which makes my job right now rather interesting.

*hee* I never thought about it that way!

I have this whole list of things TW forever altered my perception of. At the top, of course, is the stop watch.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-06-25 05:02 pm (UTC)(link)
TW is good at doing that

and omg yes- the stopwatch

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2008-06-25 05:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Of course, some of the things on the list are actually more fandom related. TW fic is good at that, too.

tw fic can be evil *nods* not that I've contributed to that slippery slope at all, mind you

did you manage a straight face when you typed that?
