Photo meme response

Since I can't figure out how to post them as photos in the comments....

[personal profile] rustydog asked for donut place.  My favorite place closed last year, but the week before it shut down the kids and I went and got one of their massive donuts.  The things were huge- the three of us couldn't finish it in one sitting.  We took a picture for posterity:

[profile] jadesfire2808 asked for fluffy.  This *very* old photo of fuzzbutt and daughter (who is almost 13 now) came to mind.  I was going to take a current photo, but he's hiding under the bed and being, in general, terribly uncooperative.

[personal profile] kensieg asked for garden, here's some tulips!

If anyone else has any requests, please feel free to go make them

*clings* You mean I'm not the only one afflicted by brown-thumbitis? It's weird. If someone says "oh you should try growing whatnots, they're so easy and next to impossible to kill" than said whatnot do not stand even the remotest chance with me.

You are so not the only one. Now the funny thing is, my mom was that way with houseplants. She could grow anything outside, but inside? Nope.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-06-26 02:22 am (UTC)(link)
I can't grow anything. anywhere. at all. I either over-water it or under-water it. Too much sun, not enough. Bugs get at it and eat it or nothing comes and pollinates it and it never flowers.

It's a special talent

Drowned or crispy, there is no middle ground. *nods*

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-06-26 02:25 am (UTC)(link)
How do other people do it? *sobs* I just don't get it!

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_medley_/ 2008-06-26 02:28 am (UTC)(link)
Me either! We need a plant-killer's support group.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-06-26 02:29 am (UTC)(link)
Yes! There have to be more of us out there!!!

Plant-killers of the world, UNITE!!!

(not untie, which is how I typed it first. *grumbles*)

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_medley_/ 2008-06-26 02:31 am (UTC)(link)
Yes! (We can untie as well, if you like.)

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-06-26 02:32 am (UTC)(link)
stupid dyslexia. Spellcheckers only help if my messup is not actually a word.

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_medley_/ 2008-06-26 02:42 am (UTC)(link)
You do really well with that--I hardly ever see mistakes like that when I beta for you.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-06-26 02:44 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks! It's not easy. Typing is a lot easier that writing long hand for noticing stuff like that.

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_medley_/ 2008-06-26 02:47 am (UTC)(link)
I bet it would be. You know, the more I type the worse my handwriting seems to get. Is it like that with you?

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-06-26 02:49 am (UTC)(link)
I have horrific chicken scrawl. I also have a different learning disability called disgraphia where you flip letters and replace them and all sorts of wonderful things like that so it makes my writing even worse.

If I'm concentrating, it's not so bad. But now that I'm typing a lot more my scrawl is worse and worse, because- typing's so much easier! who wants to write it all out?

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_medley_/ 2008-06-26 02:54 am (UTC)(link)
Typing is easier! And wow, I bet the flipping and replacing of letters is fun to try to deal with! ...My friend Donna does that, now that I think of it.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-06-26 02:57 am (UTC)(link)
it's ridiculously annoying. B/d/p get switched all the time and things like that. And I flip numbers which can make balancing a checkbook oh so fun.

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_medley_/ 2008-06-26 03:00 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, I bet! Donna had a terrible time with math in school because she did that.

My seventh grade English teacher had a ton of posters and signs all over her wall, and my favorite was this old-timey looking "propaganda" poster that said BAD SPELLERS UNTIE! It took me a month of staring at it to see the joke.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-06-26 02:45 am (UTC)(link)
brains are funny that way. Yours just corrected it for you. Rather considerate overall!

[identity profile] rustydog.livejournal.com 2008-06-26 02:53 am (UTC)(link)
My mom is that way with all plants. My theory is that she's just naturally focused on other things, like people, so even if she tries to remember the plants, the connection just isn't there. Nothing wrong with that! I *wish* I connected with people the way she does. Plants are great but they can't drive you to the hospital when you fall down the stairs. *g*

[identity profile] rustydog.livejournal.com 2008-06-26 03:01 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you! It's from a painting by Waterhouse, which I loved partly because the lady seems to have red hair. :)

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-06-26 03:02 am (UTC)(link)
I don't know Waterhouse, unfortunately. I'll have to Google him

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_medley_/ 2008-06-26 03:02 am (UTC)(link)
That makes sense! I like that theory a lot better than the one that says I'm just scatterbrained. *g*

Not the only one at all! I definitely have a black thumb when it comes to most plants, although I can grow herbs really really well. When I was a student, I had a basil plant that grew approximately to the size of a Triffid.

My grandfather was a fantastic gardener, and used to give my mother plants that he was sure "would stay nice and small". After about 3 months, they'd be enormous and covered in flowers. She used to do absolutely nothing except water them. We reckon they used to thrive on neglect :)

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-06-26 02:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Herbs! I forgot all about herbs. I haven't managed to kill off the chives yet.

Maybe you're mom has superpowers? The ability to have plants thrive under her care?
