Photo meme response

Since I can't figure out how to post them as photos in the comments....

[personal profile] rustydog asked for donut place.  My favorite place closed last year, but the week before it shut down the kids and I went and got one of their massive donuts.  The things were huge- the three of us couldn't finish it in one sitting.  We took a picture for posterity:

[profile] jadesfire2808 asked for fluffy.  This *very* old photo of fuzzbutt and daughter (who is almost 13 now) came to mind.  I was going to take a current photo, but he's hiding under the bed and being, in general, terribly uncooperative.

[personal profile] kensieg asked for garden, here's some tulips!

If anyone else has any requests, please feel free to go make them

That usually happens with spices for me.

Last thanksgiving I actually went through and dumped a bunch of spices. They are very cheap when buying in bulk and when I realized many were so old they barely had any aroma I bit the bullet and tossed them

My mother still has some spices from the 70s, I swear.

in theory they have a lifespan of only 6 months or something like that.

My family never subscribed to that particular theory.

I usually don't either, but I figure 10 years or so and next to no aroma from them means they want to be replaced

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2008-06-26 11:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I tend to figure if I haven't used them within that time span, I'm probably not going to.

some I use so rarely (like only ever for a recipe I make just for Thanksgiving or whatever) they never get used up. But at co-ops you can buy only as much as you need when you buy them in bulk and they are terribly cheap that way so I dumped everything and bought enough to fill the containers 1/4 full or so, maybe even less than that.

Yeah, I found this awesome little herb store at Pike Place Market where they sell in bulk at fairly decent prices. I'll have to try that.

just make sure you put the spices in the containers right away. or label really well. Otherwise there's a lot of squinting and sniffing and wondering wth each is

I can so see myself doing that.

Right, well, I think I'm finally going to try and get some sleep before work, now.

Hee. I will, now.
