Arguing Semantics

According to the advertisement the local supermarket had cantaloupes on sale, but I didn't see them anywhere.  So I asked a person working in the produce section where the cantaloupes would be.  He pointed to a large bin.  I went and looked, but the bin was empty.  I went back and said to him "there aren't any cantaloupes there!"  to which he responded, "Well, you asked where the cantaloupes would be.  That's where the cantaloupes would be if we had any, but we don't, we're all out."

I did not expect a lesson in semantics at 10 at night in the grocery store!

think about how many times Gene Roddenbury managed to get Kirk's shirt off. and RTD's managed it for Jack, what, twice?

Dude, funny you should mention that, I just watched an old episode of Star Trek on the CW.

As a gay man, you'd think RTD would want to get Jack's shirt off as much as possible. Actually, I would think even a straight man would want to get JB's shirt off...

RTD should be ashamed of himself, body like Jack's

Here, here.

Did you watch the episode, yet?

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2008-07-06 02:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Yep. I had about the same reaction. I loved Jack's line, "You do not want to know what I'm thinking right now". I apparently set the bar low enough, though, because I wasn't disappointed by anything except the trailer for the Christmas special.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-07-06 02:55 pm (UTC)(link)
I turned it off before the trailer, but went back when people were talking about it. I hate them as much as Daleks. *sigh*

I didn't set the bar low enough. Hubby was annoyed at how much I yelled at Rose.

Same here. I mean, they've gotten rid of them enough times.

For me, the idiocy of Rose was more than made up for by the awesomeness of the rest of them, especially Donna...and I really loved that scene with ALL of them together, where Donna's being all superior (and hugging Jack).

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-07-06 03:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Donna's interest in Jack was wonderful. But too much was annoying and whiny Mary Sue self-centered Rose was far far too frustrating and asinine for my tastes.

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2008-07-06 03:07 pm (UTC)(link)
I did kind of want to kick Rose in the end.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-07-06 03:10 pm (UTC)(link)
absolutely! Especially when she was all pouty.

(notice she didn't care AT ALL that Mickey wasn't returning with her? selfish bitch)

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2008-07-06 03:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Exactly. I, on the other hand, CHEERED when Mickey decided to stay. I mean, seriously, wouldn't Mickey in Torchwood be the most amazing thing ever?

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-07-06 03:18 pm (UTC)(link)
not sure. I wasn't fond of S1 Mickey, but he was fine in season @ finale and here so I'll give him the benefit of the doubt. I'd love Martha to be back too.

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2008-07-06 04:32 pm (UTC)(link)
They better bring her back for more than just the measly 2009 special.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-07-06 04:33 pm (UTC)(link)
I bet Martha's going to become a regular on TW.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-07-07 02:42 pm (UTC)(link)
she worked really well on TW last year, but I'm a little worried about TW becoming DW-lite with all of DW's cast-offs and nothing new to itself other than it's grittier

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2008-07-07 03:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Especially if RTD is in charge of that while Moffatt's doing DW.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-07-07 03:05 pm (UTC)(link)
RTD is still in charge of both for '09. I haven't heard anything about TW for 2010 (not who would be in charge, or even if it would air)

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2008-07-07 03:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Well...at least there's less for him to screw up?

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-07-07 03:09 pm (UTC)(link)
the power of positive thinking. *nods* works for me!

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2008-07-07 03:13 pm (UTC)(link)
And, if that doesn't work, we can just all go eat donuts and forget it ever happened.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-07-07 03:15 pm (UTC)(link)
oddly enough, that also works for me!
